Any Ideas ?

My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES fishing. She has her own Frozen rod and reel that I recently taught her how to cast on. (She's a natural I might add). Right now when we go fishing we just give her the pole and she just casts and reels. There's a drop sinker tied to the end of it as of now. I want her to get some type of bait or lure on there so she actually has a chance of catching a fish. A small chance but at least a chance. Any ideas of what I should put on there ? Has to have some weight to it because she's only 2 and lacks the strength and finesse to cast far. I was thinking just a very small hook and maybe just tie the drop sinker on about 2-6 inches above it. That way it doesn't have much of a chance to hook her while she's casting. Throw a crawler on there and let her go. I'm just real weary of the hook, naturally and was wondering if anyone had some ideas. Let me know ! You could be the cause of my daughters first catch !

Target bluegill with worms and crickets. Start by helping her cast and hooking up the fish so she can simply reel it in. With kids, "catching" is everything!

If you have live bait available in your area I'd start there. Her chances of catching something will go up greatly. Tell her to throw it out and watch her line. Even a swimming bait fish tied to a hook will keep her attention longer than just standing there waiting for something to happen or just constantly reeling..

I'd use a small grub under a bobber. File the barb off a small jighead just in case.

Only problem is she gets so excited she isn't going to like looking and waiting for the fish on a bobber, lol. Probably put one on anyways just to keep her bait out of the weeds and easily accessible. Thanks for the ideas, guys.

My son is 2.5 as well. You just have to keep them around aggressive bluegills or sunfish. They usually don't have the coordination to start reeling until a couple seconds after the bobber hits the water. If there's active panfish around, they'll be on it by then.

I always give the little kids in my neighborhood a bobber, split shot above the hook about 6", size 10 hook, and a Gulp Maggot or Earthworm, and it catches everything...Kids want action or they get bored. They are just as happy as catching a cool looking cat fish than a big Bass...But they also catch shiners, Gills, Bass, Crappie, and all kinds of odd fish in ponds. Bread works well since Carp and Tilapia will strike at times.

The Key is the split shot over the hook, and a bobber, not sure why the split shot works but it just does, I give them wide bite circle hooks and just tell them to reel when the bobber goes under and keep it steady....It is more fun watching a young kid learn to fish and then see him get that addiction to where he is waiting for you outside by the ponds to intercept me while walking my dog to show me pictures of catches.

One Kid is only 7 and he is now catching Bass out of the lakes on spinners, Poppers, and His Dad just hooked him up with a new set up so he can get out and hit the Saltwater scene.....Kids Love Bowphin and BIg Catfish, just put a split shot on bottom with a chunk of dead bait or gulp is hard to beat. Minnows will catch anything as well, key is explaining the circle hooks which is kind of tricky and I often wonder if that is best way to go...

If she is a serial reeler, a beetle spin or Ned rig will likely be a good choice.  They catch panfish as well as other species and will work with just about any retrieve.
