Hey guys.  I am from Ohio and we go on vacation near Pawley's Island each year.  I will be there with my 15 year old the last week of July.  I read tonight that the Santee Cooper Lakes, Marion and Moultrie are supposed to be great.  Here is the kicker, I only have a 14' Tracker with a 9.9hp motor.  Do any of you have advice for places to fish that would make sense to bring the boat and fish a couple days?  We have tried to fish from the shore for reds on the intercoastal without much luck.  Considering pulling the boat down.  Thanks in advance!

I used to live in South Carolina for quite a few years. Santee Cooper is a great place to fish. I used to love the fact that I could drive down one highway and find a different spot to fish every five minutes. There is just so much water in south Carolina. I do like Lake Moultrie, the Santee River, and the Cooper River in particular. So, there are a ton of different places that you could launch a boat. That way if maybe you don't have success at one place you have a ton of options.

The Santee cooper river has some great fishing during the spring and fall. Summer can be tough with the water temps being so high. I tend to fish the coves and bays that have good vegetation with deeper water close by. I usually have better success flipping and punching grass mats in those areas with a soft plastic and on cloudy days I throw a topwater frog. Summer tends to be a tough time to catch the bigger fish but they are definitely in there. Good luck and good fishing!

Do you stay at Litchfield by the Sea?  My mom has timeshare there and I have been going down for years, mostly fishing the inlets and intercoastal waterway. This year I plan to pull a boat and launch out of Georgetown in Winyah bay.  From there you can access a ton of water, but the tides can be tricky.
