#20 lb. Braid On Baitcaster

I have a new spool of Sufix #20 lb. Performance Braid I want to try on a small H2O Express Mettle baitcast reel . In order to put the best odds in my favor I am thinking to put #4 lb. ~ #6 lb. mono backing on first (wound tight) and then top that with approx. 65 to 70 yrds. of the Sufix #20 lb. braid (also wound tight) . Lastly , keeping my drag on the reel slightly weak to guard against the braid digging in . That's about all I know to do ... Those who run #20 lb. braid on a baitcaster - what are your experiences and tips  in setting up your reels to run #20 lb. braid ?

You are already on the right path with being
aware of possible issues. You will be fine unless
you are pulling logs out of the water on a tight
drag  

If you do something like that, just pull off some
of the braid and rewind it back in. I really have
had virtually zero issues with my setup using
20# PowerPro.

Thanks Darren , the Sufix #20 braid is the same diameter as the PP (which I also like) ...

i've even got 15# on one casting reel and it works just fine.  you can step up the backing a little bit to use less line and also give a little confidence if for any reason you ever got down to the backing.  i'd maybe go 8 or 10#.

I use 20# PP slick on my Chronarch 50mg. Works great for tossing small baits. I prefer it to mono or fluorocarbon because I can use braid for every application. If i need some shock absorption, fishing in rocks, or clear water I just tie on a FC leader.

Braid will still dig in. I have 50# on two reels and it digs in when I have to yank it or catch a big fish. Just deal with it. And why not use something thicker for your backing unless you already have the smaller line? I use 15# Big Game just because I have a lot of it laying around. But you'll use less of a thicker mono.

I just  put some 20lb 832 on my Tatula last night. You shouldn't have problems so long as you wind the line on VERY TIGHT. Like taking an old t-shirt or cloth and wrapping the line in it, then holding on tight while you reel on the line. Having a small diameter like that works wonders for casting distance so long as you know how to go about it properly.

I use 15lb mono just because I have it laying around. I use just enough backing, to fill a single layer from end to end of the spool, tie on my braid and go. I know I could get away with more and use less braid but if I'm being honest I am lazy and prefer to not have to refill my spools regularly. I don't have too many issues, 20lb power pro is the lowest I go for baitcasting though, and on windy days sometimes I wonder if it's worth it.

I use 20lb Suffix 832 and have never had an issue with the line digging in. I never wound it overly tight. I've been using the same line for 2 seasons now. I don't lock down my drag but I also don't use the reel to pull out snags.
