bassfash Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Which one is better gonna order a few Also what's the sink rate on the Matt lures Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 28, 2016 Super User Posted June 28, 2016 The Matt Lures is very well crafted. However, it is a very soft rubber, so be sure to get a bottle of Mend It whenever you order it. 1 Quote
bassfash Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Okay thanks I juat saw this but I purchased both anyway and mend it Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 28, 2016 Global Moderator Posted June 28, 2016 Good decision, they're very different baits for different things. Mend it is a must for the Mattlures baits though. Quote
bassfash Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 Yeah I'm excited to fish them are either of them good for skipping and about how fast does the mat lures sink 1 hour ago, Bluebasser86 said: Good decision, they're very different baits for different things. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 28, 2016 Global Moderator Posted June 28, 2016 I'm not sure the exact ROF but it's not a very fast sinking bait, I'd guess around a ROF 5 but it could be less. Quote
Big bass hunter Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I dont have the savage gear but i am picking one up as soon as i can got car problems to take care of first but i hear the 5 inch swims on its side for alot of people and the 6 inch swims straight but im picking up the slow sink version Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 28, 2016 Super User Posted June 28, 2016 Matt doesn't rate his lures in ROF or rate of fall per minute, they are floating, slow sink, fast sink. Never used Savage Gear (Daiwa) lures, no comment. Matt lures work good, why change! If you buy mass produced lures and put the small business like Matt lures out of business who will invent new lures? Tom 1 Quote

It's actually kind of nice because I can cast it behind weed edges and fish it up to the edge of the weeds then pop it out and skip it across the weeds back to the boat. I have several of the SG gills in both sizes and both floating and slow sink. I really like the floating version of both sizes the best. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 28, 2016 Super User Posted June 28, 2016 I wouldn't advise skipping a Matt Lures Gill. They're very soft. 1 Quote

Super User MassYak85 Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 I wouldn't say one is better really, they have very different actions. The Mattlures is very subtle and can be fished very slow, but is also much more fragile. The Savage Gear has an S-action and can be fished almost like a glide bait, where it will swing out to one side, or even do a 180 with the right technique. It is much tougher plastic and IMO looks more realistic in the water when sitting still. Both look amazing though. Mattlures has the single "jig" style hook and the savage gear has the treble, with the 6" using their line-through system. Besides them both being bluegill swimbaits they don't share much in common other than being awesome fish catchers, can't go wrong with either. If you are going to order a few, why not both? Quote

Yeah I like that the savage gear does the 180 it looks like its checking out any followers but I only got a few of them on that one but the matts killed it the last couple I got a five today and got a coupe decent fish yesterday and had two 7-8 pounders follow it and swipe but IMO it sinks too fast when it's by the boat And any followers I have to back down because it sinks too fast but the savage is a slower sink and it just rest there which I like but I got the 5" version and te hooks always come out of the slots . I will be ordering a few of each soon both great baits and get Giants. 3 hours ago, Jtrout said: What about a jackall giron? Was thinking about. How does it fish I don't really fish hard swimbaitaswim baits Quote
Fish4bigfish Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 That's great for you! I have had the Matt lures gill lose eyes and fins from just normal cast. They can be extremely fragile. They are great baits. Personally I wouldn't skip em all day at over 20 a piece and have em destroyed. Better tools for skipping. Quote
timsford Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I've never had a Matt lures come apart on the cast. Both are great baits. These 2, the regular ultimate gill, and the giron are my favorite baits, especially in ponds and smaller lakes Quote
