I got burnt so bad when I was 11 or 12 the only way I could sleep was in a tub of cool water. I would sleep for hours in the tub. It ended with a trip to the er because it felt like someone was poking me with needles and I was losing my mind cause it just wouldn't stop. That sucked! Like a lot of the rest of you, I have a lot of Irish heritage, I don't really tan, I just turn a bronzeish red color!

Man that's gotta hurt something awful!

Thanks to the Italian side of me courtesy of my mother,I'm so dark skinned that I've only been burned two times in my lifetime. My wife is fair skinned and would burn just like you if she didn't lather on the sun screen all day.

Best thing you can do with that, now, is dab it very carefully with a lot of olive oil.  That will take the sting out and reduce the blisters.  I've seen my kids look just like you and the olive oil really relieved the mess.  Other people that tried couldn't believe how well it works.   Try it and let me know how well it worked for you.

I would rather go home then fish without sun protection. Went out a few days ago and for some dumb reason wore shorts instead of my Columbia fishing pants, as soon as my knee caps started to warm up I called it a day. Been burned bad once before, not going to happen again. Good luck I hope it heals alright.

Youch.  That reminds me of my worst burn ever.  Snorkeling in Guam, mid day, in August.  I totally spaced on the sunscreen.  I was shivering uncontrollably that night due to how much heat I was losing through the sunburn across my arms, shoulders, and back.  It was AWFUL for about a week.

Back in my early 20's, I fell asleep on an inflatable raft in 90 degree heat.  I got 2nd degree burns from my shin all the way to my toes.....one solid blister!  I could not walk for a week.  It was extremely painful to apply the aloe, but I slathered it on. And when the blisters broke, it took a whole roll of paper towels to soak up the juice.

Now I bathe in sunscreen every time I go fishing, and wear long pants and sleeves often.

Also note - sunscreen expires!  If your sunscreen is more than 2 years old, toss it and buy a new one.  They all have expiration dates on them - check it!

C&G, that's a significant burn. Regular sunburn is one thing, blistering sun burn is pretty significant. I know you are a young gun, and properly protecting yourself from the sun will prevent serious skin issues in the future.

A buff, hat, sun gloves, and long sleeve shirt is pretty much a must for me if I'm going to be in the sun all day. I was really surprised how much cooler I stay with the long shirt too.

I cover up like Blue, had skin cancer so I don't take any chances. After working 41 in the sun, the sun has taken a toll on my skin. Wish I started covering up earlier. Hope the best for you.

Wow you poor poor pale, pasty people. It's so nice being bronze. My ancestory is german, scottish, Eastern european, and black foot indian. The Indian tone prevailed. Unlike yall I turn an even darker shade of bronze. Biggest plus? I don't get sunburns. Yall buy sun screen, I buy tanning oil. Looking like a Pacific Islander has it perks. I claim it's how I got my current wife. She thought I was exotic cause I told her I was Maori and owned a yacht.

My oldest son, two middle children, and my wife will burn in under 2 minutes. My youngest got my tone. He just gets darker and doesn't burn. He still wears sunscreen and hats and what not though.

Went fishing yesterday and I made the big mistake of forgetting to put sunscreen on for my five hour trip in the blazing heat... Now I have second degree burns covering my entire upper body, shoulders to my neck. The blisters are huge, and there are hundreds of tiny ones surrounding the big ones that will probably connect to form one huge mother of a blister of both my shoudlers.

Hope I don't get skin cancer, oh well. What's done is done, but I bet I won't ever forget to put sunscreen on again Lol.

Still went to work today, and it SUCKED.

Were you staying in the sun trying to burn off that moustache?

When I started fishing my social circle grew to include a lot of guys who are many decades older then myself.  Listening to them discuss having bits of their faces cut off really got me to pay attention to sun protection.  I bought a UV protection hoody and I keep it in my car so it is always at hand when ever I hit the water.  If I wear it with nothing underneath it is as cool as an undershirt, although it does get stinky much faster.
