ErikmonBillsfon Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Livetarget mouse was my favorite lure last year regardless of type or brand. This year I just got a livingston lure pro sizzle and tried it out a hot mid afternoon in CT this weekend. At first I was shocked on how heavy and thicker it was than a super spook. Also was upset at the loud smack and splash it makes, (nearly impossible to skip). The hooks seemed incredibly dull for a premium lure and might need changing out. Walks the dog easy and when you get a nice cast with minimal splash the fish liked it. Caught a ok sized bass for the pond I was in. I don't think I wont go to the JR size since I caught dinks on it but I might upgrade the hooks. Any one else feel like livingston hooks aren't on point, this was my first lure from them. Quote
Dogmatic Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Lots of "conventional" picks, I'll add some bigger options for y'all who really like getting selective. MS Slammer (either 7" or my preferred 9"), I use a white, or light one for when the sun is up, or black or purple for nighttime. It's unique swim action, profile, and noise draws big fish(although l've caught a few middlings on it too). Add just a few others I throw on a regular basis that are consistent fish catchers. 3:16 Wake Jr(and baby wake), Black Dog Lunker Punker (wood), and new to my arsenal R2S Whopper Plopper(190). I usually throw these baits over deeper water to shallow transition areas, weedlines, and edges of steep drop offs, like rock walls, and lay downs in deeper water. Quote
RangerDanger Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 You don't recommend a pompadour? Unbelievable. I guess you don't like violent topwater strikes? I guess they do have a flaw, you catch so many fish and they hit it with so much force the wings need to be bent back in place. 2 Quote
evilcatfish Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I'll play: Slammer Lunker Punker Gunfish 95 and 115 Giant Dog X 1 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 New topic going up shortly guys! Thanks for all the responses. Also, sorry that I don't recommend the Pompadour, clearly ya'll have had a lot of success with it. I don't fish many lakes anymore, I stick to rivers and creeks and haven't had much luck. I'll give it another go this week! 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted July 5, 2016 Super User Posted July 5, 2016 Favorite topwater is a Lunker Lure Buzzbait . Use it from spawn to winter . I once caught bass with it , in an early winter snowstorm . Its the funnest lure to throw when fish are hitting it . Technique . Bounce it off of cover . Catches bigger than average fish . The more used it is the better it becomes . I have worn the blades all the way through on many of them . Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 5, 2016 Super User Posted July 5, 2016 It's not always the certain lure that's not working. The color, the time of day can factor in with the speed of the presentation and the length of pause in walking the dog. Clear water conditions natural colors, stained waters brighter colors. A plus for me is the bait having a orange bottom. We can walk the dog or chug too fast. I do get rushed or excited to fish so I speed up. My mistake. i like to use spooks. I purchased a marked down producer brand spook in orange. One morning five casts five bass right away on it. For two dollars. Keep an open mind when looking at the clearance section. The orange color can mimic a goldfish or duck? 1 Quote
jr231 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Rapala skitter pop. Caught my PB on one a few years ago. . It's the real deal man lots of fish on it and you could get one alot cheaper than some of these other baits (other than the rebel pop-r) which is very similar. Quote

I've got Ricos, Pop-X, Hula, Gunfish, Heddon spooks, yellow magic, jitterbug, 3DB, frogs, rats, etc., but I still haven't even experienced a fish attempt to strike my lure. I thought you could throw them at all times of day? I got out this morning around 615 (after the sun had risen) and managed to catch a couple via drop shot, but nothing on topwater. Any thoughts? Send them to me, I'll figure out what is wrong with them for you. LOL 1 Quote
