Jon burrows Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 How do hook up two batteries together??? When I charge them do I have to charge each battery by itself or can I charge them together with one charger??? As for as accessories such as finder, bilge pump, etc do I hook these things to the starter battery??? Thanks Quote
Molay1292 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 What are you using the two batteries that you want to hook together for? Many people run all their accessories off of the starting battery. Quote
Jon burrows Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 The two batteries together would b trolling motor Quote
Molay1292 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 The two batteries need to be hooked together in series if you are using a 24V trolling motor. If you are using a 12V trolling motor then they would need to connected in parallel. You can charge both batteries at the same time in both cases, however my personal preference in to not parallel charge multiple batteries. There are a lot of examples on making the connections if you search here or the internet. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 If your running them in parallel then charge them like that, so they can charge equally. The batteries will last longer that way, the right charger will be able to charge two batteries that are in series also. I know my BPS XPS charger can do it, so I would i would think most digital chargers can also. Just make sure you have every thing hooked up right. Quote
Jon burrows Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 (edited) Couple questions...1st question...when hooking up the charger...do I hook it up to just one battery...or do I put one charger wire on one battery and the other charger wire the other battery...2nd question ...what gauge wire do I use to run them parallel??? Thanks If your batteries are next to each other - 6 gauge should be fine. I have my batteries runnig parallel, and I use 2 chargers to charge them with - just to be sure they both fully charge, however - you can charge them both by only connecting to 1 battery - it's just a personal preference for me.
