Looking to pick your brains.  Thinking about making the leap from my Ito Ai (103 spool) to a PX68.  It's a little lighter a little faster and a little better at light baits...  Right?  Or is it monumentally better at something?  This will be going on an NRX 852c and be used for mostly weightless t-rigs on 15# Smackdown braid.  Specifically looking at the 6.8 raito version for picking up slack fast.  What say you??  I really love the asthetics of the Ito so if it won't be a big jump in function I will likely pass, but I'd love to hear your opinions.  Thanks!

+1 bait monkey point for creativity and thinking outside the box.

-1 bait monkey point for not enabling my Pixy fantasy.

Buy the SV spool for your 103, and then buy a Pixy to compare.

+1 to bait monkey for outside the box thinking, +1 bait monkey for enabling Pixy fantasy

+2>0 Therefore this is the best option ;) haha

I don't have a 103 to compare my PXL Type R to, but have an Alphas SV105.  Personally I like the PX better, but I have mentioned here several times my feelings on the SV105.

Since Pixy's are practically free on that auction site right now, you really can't go wrong picking up a used PX68 to compare with an SV spool in your Ito.

+3 to Bait Monkey for enabling purchases which can be justified since you *may* only need one of them after the comparison ;-)

Received Saturday an Airy Red Pixie.  Cost me about half (or less) what they were going for a couple years ago.  Wanted one for a long time so I'm glad the prices went way down.  Feel sorry for the guys trying to sell one now tho.  They are taking a beating.

By the way...  For future reference, the answer to the original question is YES.  A RESOUNDING, OVERWHELMING YES.

Seriously, it's not even close.  The Pixy slaughters the 103 when it comes to really light baits in case someone is ever wondering.

ebay.  About 2 years ago a $250 Pixy was a very good price.  The older models...not the PX Type R.  Now you can get them for less than $150.  Mine was less, but needs repair work....a fact not mentioned by the seller.  :(

However, I have no plans of reselling it so the extra money doesn't bother me.....too much.

I haven't looked, but an almost free PX Type R doesn't sound right.

I picked up a PXL-R from Tackle Warehouse a couple of years ago when they had them on sale for $300.  It is a sweet reel that's great for casting very light baits.  I'm impressed with it and it's one of my all-time favorites.  The only other reel I've tried for light baits is Daiwa's Alphas SV-105.  It works well, but I greatly prefer the Pixy.

Tight lines,

Bob

The Px type r is a really refined reel.  I just recently picked up a Chinese honeycomb spool off ebay and it's amazing.   I was throwing 1/16 oz roadrunners the other day with great control and distance.

Yeah I am in love.  It really launches light baits in a way that doesn't even seem possible.  I can't even imagine how well it does with a honeycomb spool!

I really think I probably got the best deal of all time on my Pixy R.  @desmobob would you believe I got it for well under $200 after the seller swapped the handle and knobs out for a Tatula's?  If anyone is looking, be patient. If the deal you want isn't there, give it time or put out the feelers. You never know who will see it and what deals they may be willing to make!

$200 is an outstanding price for that reel. I think I paid $275 for the one I have, and I consider that money well spent.

Yeah, I paid roughly $220 for both my px68's about 2yrs ago. The market has went way down since though. That part sucks for people who are trying to sell.
