Texasbassin Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 When it comes to chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. I'm looking at two rods: the Dobyns Fury 7' med hvy power moderate fast action and the Denali Jadewood J2 7' med hvy power mod action. Any opinions, thoughts, etc.? Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I just got the Denali Jadewood J2 for medium diving cranks(10ft-17ft) and like it for that application. Honestly though its tip heavy. I have a lighter reel (carbonlite) on it so this may play into it but even with a heavier reel it still is a tad tip heavy. I'd go Dobyns Fury for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, just my opinion. Texasbassin Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 Appreciate it! Will definately think about that Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I own multiple J2s as well as the older Jadewood, I do not own any Dobyns rods so I can't say anything about them. J2s are a little tip heavy but I found they balance well with most Diawa reels. Also When I fish cranks, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits I fish tip down. They are sensitive and you will for sure feel bites with them. At $100 they are great rods but now that Denali is discontinuing them the current $90 and some places even $75 you can't beat that deal. That's actually a good point, the reel I'm using for it is a Daiwa Tatula Type-R 1 Quote

I put the Tatula on a Duckett Ghost and it was the most tip heavy rod I have ever felt in my life. But all in all I think he J2 balances well for a $100 rod Quote
Carterjig68 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I own a few Fury's and the 733 is an awesome rod for chatterbaits, as is the 705CB. I have used Jadewoods and personally like the Dobyns better even though the J2 is a good rod. Quote
Super User webertime Posted June 23, 2016 Super User Posted June 23, 2016 I've fished both and the Fury is a nicer feeling rod as it's not as tip heavy. A 733, 734 would be a good chatterbait rod. Quote
Honkytonk Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 i would go with the 733 fury. its my dedicated chatterbait rod and is perfect. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted June 24, 2016 Super User Posted June 24, 2016 were it my money, i'd spend it on the fury for sure. med hvy is perfect for chatterbaits/spinnerbaits Quote
Rbm18 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I also have had both. They are both nice rods but I like my fury a lot better. Quote
Texasbassin Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 I appreciate all the comments... Dobyns it is! Quote

Philo Beddoe Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I haven't fished the Denali, but do have a few Furys. I like them and find they balance well with the Citicas and Tournament MG'S that I have on them. Unless I were throwing 1/4oz spinners and chatterbaits, I'd probably go with the Fury 734 instead of the 733. I find the 734 to be better all around than the 733. Quote
