Culling Help

This past Saturday my tournament partner and I fished our first tournament together.  We studied and practiced really hard and fished our way to a 5th place finish and cashed a check.  Heres the problem we caught about thirty fish and culled 5 times.  I am not exaggeration when I say we spent at least 10mins each time we culled.  We tried putting culling tags on our fish but did not know the size.  In order to cull we tried using my scale but that was inacruate and untrustworthy.  

I just want to know what you guys do in order make culling easier, or how you separate fish in the live-well by size or whatever you do to save time.

This was a disaster and I know not every tournament the fish will be biting as well as they were this weekend and we would not like to lose valuable fishing time. Thanks for the help

Here is what I made for culling fish. 

The counter from Accu Cull is about as simple as you can get. Not shown in my photo is the individual colored floats with stringer hooks like this one from Bass Pro...

I used a sharpie to number each one of the floats to correspond to the numbers on the Accu Cull counter. Even lucked out as the colors on the floats matched the colors on the counter. I bought a cutting board from Walmart and mounted all of the items to it and mounted the board on the underside of my rod locker lid. I just leave the floats loose in the bottom of the rod locker.

Easy Peasy!!

Thank you for the help thus looks simple and effective, so you then weigh each fish as you catch it?

Correct, weigh, record the weight, put the corresponding float on the fish and in the livewell it goes. Whole process generally takes no more than a minute and you are fishing again.

They also make culling tags with the weights visible right in the floats.

Yep Ardent cull tags. Tag all fish upon catching and weigh them when the bite slows. Put all weights on the tags and get a balance for fish that are close in weights. On tip I learned Cheetah is use the green tag next to be culled. Red means stop, don't even think about culling

I use the Ardent smart cull tags. Each fish is weighed on my hand held scale, I dial in the weight on the tag, and have a balance beam for any that are close.

Sometimes the beam is handy...............sometimes the cull is obvious.

I have a cull aid app on my phone and it works great. Program in the color of your cull tags and it's ready to go. As you catch fish weigh them, tag them and toss them in the livewell. Once you get your 6th fish weigh it and compare to the others. I have an accu cull scale that works great and didn't break the bank. If you're tournament fishing for money it's not worth using unreliable equipment.
