Hannock Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Im assuming that the retailers are dumping the vigilante and vengeance models bc theyre dirt cheap right now. I picked up an extra vigilante rod from walmart bc 1. its surprisingly my favorite rod I own and 2. they were on sale for $25 (orig. $36). When I got to the register it rang up for $9. It was the only one left or I wouldve purchased their whole stock. After searching online I saw that cabela's was selling the vengeance rods for $24.99 (orig. $49) but theyre sold out now. My guess is that their dumping the older models to make room for newer ones. Thoughts? 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 Those are really good rods they hold up to a beating and surprisingly sensitive. Quote
riverbasser Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I also picked up a vigilante at Walmart for $15 the other day. It was the last one too Quote

Its the new vengeance I believe, the site says new arrival for it. The medium heavy is silver and the medium is black, I'm not sure for the light because they are out of stock Quote
LzeroKI Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Ahh, its the spinning rods. I was hoping for the casting models. I checked out a local walmart at lunch, they had one of the black vengeance rods but it was a spinning model, it didn't have any kind of tag on it at all either, so I don't think they would have sold it anyway. I want a good bait caster but I cant afford it, I am only 14 and don't have the 300 to spend on a good baitcasting combo Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 I had the old vengeance but I gave it to my buddy and I got the new version silver with black but the old version is better but a little heavier. 7 minutes ago, Cheesefrank said: I had the old vengeance but I gave it to my buddy and I got the new version silver with black but the old version is better but a little heavier. Can you believe a I have this 49$rod paired up with a curado ? Just temporary till I get a better cranking stick it works well for now. Quote
LzeroKI Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 For the record: I own one of the new silver and black vengeance spinning rods. I love it, that's why I was looking for the casting one for cheap. 1 Quote

I think it is primarily a Walmart thing. I've seen lots of their higher-end (for Walmart) rods on huge discount over the past several months. Picked up rods ranging from $7 to $24. Prices highly variable depending on the store and when you happen to go in. Not exactly sure why, but this started around inventory time, according to a manger I asked. Not all stores have the same sell-off happening, and they might be regular price. With the Vengeance, the graphics have changed from the older black with grey lines to predominantly grey with black lettering. Not sure if there was a material change in the rod itself or just a refresh. I'd be interested to know if there is a physical difference between the older and newer Vengeance. With the Vengeance, I've seen both the older and newer rods in the clearance bins, depending on the store. It could be they were indiscriminate in making mark-downs. My best I can tell, the Vigilante is a Wal-mart only rod (maybe other discount big box stores too). I got one a couple of years ago and its been good overall but don't love the foam handle, it's just OK. They have also been selling off the Vendetta in some stores, but there is no graphics or other change that I am aware of. FWIW they have also been selling off rods from other brands - Quantum KVD, Skeet Reece, and Falcon, but only certain stores and not others. Good luck! Quote

IIRC, according to Abu Garcia's website (when I bought my vengeance spinning they still had the specs online for the older vengeance model and the new one as well) the old model (black with grey "lightning stripes") was listed as moderate fast action, and the new vengeance (silver with black rings by the guides) is listed as fast action. Other than the change from moderate fast to fast, I couldn't tell any difference. 1 Quote

Well imo there is a significant difference I believe the new vengeance is more of a moderate action as the old one was a more fast action and more sensitive but heavier I think they cut corners on this new model to make it lighter and more appealing but not necessarily better. Abu garcias web site is just trying to sell rods that's what they are in the business of doing however I have fished both rods a great deal and in this case the only thing I don't like about the older model was the graphics the weight didn't bother me a hole lot this newer version is not as strong and feels way more moderate this is why I use it primarily for cranking,I'm probably going to give it away or sell it half of to a buddy of mine. I don't believe they make good 50$ rods anymore I'll be sticking to the more higher end models for now. Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 23, 2016 Super User Posted June 23, 2016 I must add however that the rods I'm talking about are both 66 medium I never owned the medium heavy. Quote
Danny_716 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I picked up the 6'9" vengeance MH combo paired with an abu black max 2 for $40 the other day ($60 but a $20 mail in rebate). You can't get just the reel new for that price. I put some 30lb PP slick and 12lb fluoro leader on it and caught fish before I got home fish, literally. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted June 23, 2016 Super User Posted June 23, 2016 Walmart and Dicks are always worth watching. The fishing industry is about to bring out next years models soon. These two retailers have a habit of blowing out their inventory around this time. Several years ago I picked up a Falcon Buccoo micro guide trapmaster rod for something like $30. It was retailing on line for somewhere over $70 I believe. That rod is terrific, I throw rattle traps and crankbaits on it for strippers. Later that fall Dicks had an Abu Garcia Veritas blowout for $30. I always go to Dicks, purchase a jig or a pack of gum, go home, go online, fill out the questionnaire using the code from my receipt, and print my ten dollar off coupon. I went back and got it for $20. They were retailing for $90 elsewhere. I bought three, one MH for me that I frog with and two mediums for friends of mine. Two weeks later the Veritas2 s were in the store. 1 Quote
