Hi guys,

Got out on my first kayak fishing trip this weekend.  My clothing choices sucked (t-shirts and cargos).  Between paddling and wading my pants were pretty much wet all the time, even after being in direct sun large parts of the day.  I know, cotton was the wrong choice here so need to get some nylon.  Also need get a boonie and loose the baseball hat.  Probably go with some SPF fabric b/c I did get some light sunburn on my chest that came through my cotton T-shirt.

What do you guys prefer to wear when out on the water in mostly sun but when you are going to be wet most the day?  Any brands you found you really like?

Thanks,
Hawk

I like the columbia brand, they have sunblocking fabrics, that are light, quick drying, and comfy. they have zip offs too

Zip offs, under armour long sleeve shirt or removal sleeves, big bucket hat and buff. But, spray on sun block before.

I tried one of these shirts and thus far I've been happy with it. I'll be buying another.

These keep my feet dry.

I like these hats.

And I wear the cargo shorts that have Velcro pockets so things don't fall out.

i usually wear the columbia zip offs, but rarely even unzip them.  the vented columbia fishing shirts are nice too.

I have Columbia blood and guts pants I like. I also like Simms but not sure if they make zip offs. I don't dare fish in shorts anyway. Hooks and sun wreck my chicken legs.

I'm big on sun protection. Made a mistake by going barefoot in the kayak. Hurts more than it looks lol. Never again. Sunblock or something on my feet.

I use the Columbia pants too, I never use the zipper to convert them to shorts though, they keep my legs from getting frostbite on cold mornings, and, when it's hot they keep my legs cool by keeping the sun off of them.

Also that sunburn looks freaking nasty!

Columbia is definitely a great brand for this stuff. I buy all mine at goodwill and over the years have saved hundreds on columbia shorts and shirts. However, make sure you try on the zip offs both in pant form and "unzipped". All the ones I have tried have been way too long when they are "shorts". Also, if you think you will wear them in pant form the majority of the time, like most guys have responded here, just buy the regular pants only version. They are noticeably more comfortable to me than the zip offs. Just my $0.02

I wear both Columbia and LL Bean zip off nylon pants/shorts.  You can see I'm wearing them in most of my videos. Although it seems I get razzed by the younger crowd about my "short shorts" and "daisy dukes", and how "out of fashion" I am.  I can remember back when that used to matter to me.  LOL!

Now all I care about is comfort, functionality, and the heavy use of sunscreen.

Actually, the fashion in men's shorts has been creeping shorter for a while now, the new fashion "standard" is around a 9-10" inseam.  So really you are just being very fashion forward and can look down on the less bold crowd.

Just as long as you steer clear of the jorts I think you're ok.

Columbia zip offs that always stay zipped.  With Columbia PFG long sleeved hoodie.  The older I get, the more SPF-ified I get.   Sun screen slathered on any remaining exposed skin.

I can't say enough about nylon fishing pants that dry almost immediately... in the yak or in the boat.  The SPF hoodies are also fantastic - was out in 90+ degree days thrice this weekend and never once thought the long sleeves or long pants were a bad idea
