hoosierbass07 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I had a bad experience this evening, put on some 10 pound Maxima Ultra green or whatever its called, on one of my Shimano spinning reels. The memory was horrible. I hardly used it when I went kayak night fishing tonight. I'm going to yank that stuff off. No wonder the fly fising fans like that line - its stiff! I'm a big fan of Sufix Elite mono in six, eight and ten pound line on my spinning reels. I know ten pound will work for me. Last year I had on McCoy Mean Green ten pound on one of my spinnign reels and it handled nicely. I currently have six pound CX Premium on one reel and its handling nice. I'm wondering about their ten pound line. Can ten pound CX Premium be put on a 2500 size Shimano reel? If not I guess I will go back to Sufix Elite mono, try Stren or order some McCoy. Thanks! Quote
Wprich Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 It's doable since it doesnt have a whole lot of memory and is thin, but when I used a CX premium I stuck with 6 and 8 lb tests on my spinning reels. I like 6# cxx premium or braid better on spinning reels, get some kvd for the cxx and your good to go. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 The Academy store had six, eight, twelve, fourteen, sixteen and twenty pound CX line but no twelve pound line! Ugh. lol. I decided to give the twelve pound CX line a try. Also go regular ten pound Stren that I know will work for me. So I put on that CX twelve pound line and to my surprise it does not jump off the reel like that Maxima ten pound line did. This CX twelve pound line seems to be managable. Wow. The diameter of the line is acutally smaller than the Stren ten pound line. 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 I have been able to get away with up to 12 pound test of Cx premium on a 2500 because of the thin diameter of that certain line that pline cx is great line for spinning reels! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 Wow. That's pretty stiff, but then, I left the world of spooling mono/copoly/fluoro straight on my spinning reels in favor of braid and a leader. I'd drop to 6 or 8, but if you must go 10, use some KVD Line & Lure conditioner to help relieve the springy behavior. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 Yes, 10 lb CX Premium will do just fine on a 2500. That's how I used to fish my jerkbaits 1 Quote
