If kvd could change from quantum to shimano and gloomis. And from nitro to ranger you think he'd do it? I realize it's not the boat, or the rod and reel that. Catch the fish. But better equipment makes a difference. aaron martens doesn't have a reel sponser hence he

uses shimano. Made the switch from diawa a few years ago.

Money and product. If KVD, who is a businessman as well as a bass fisherman, can get a much stronger deal from another reputable sponsor he may jump at it.

But he seems to be a loyal person who has hooked his trailer to Quantum and so far I have not heard or read anything that would change this situation.

What makes ya think he couldn't? :)

Loyalty is a good attribute

Nice to see that it's not always about money...money...money

I assume he has a lot of say with his sponsors in how they design their products.  I doubt changing brands would have any impact on his fishing.

Aaron Martens is now sponsored by shimano.  Once he left megabass shimano picked him up.

I don't see KVD switching anytime soon. He's done a lot for his sponsors and I'm sure they pay a pretty penny to keep him happy. And besides, with all the things that he's personally designed and put his name and colors on, it would be hilarious if he stopped recommending them.

KVD I'm sure can pick up a phone and get whatever sponsor he wants!  But I'm sure he'll stick to the large companies that have the resources to let him design and develop product as he wishes.

I think this comes down to what you said, yes, the money will not be as much of a factor as the design element. Shimano might not be as open with KVD to practically do whatever he wants from a design stand point on both rods and reels. Money would be a push unless another company would throw an insane amount at him. They won't because they will not get a return on this investment. Quantum would be more likely to drop KVD vs. KVD leaving for another brand/company. Boat, Lure, and the rest of his major sponsor companies would be in the same predicament.

Reminds me of when the Lindner's left
Shimano for Quantum (again).

For several seasons, Shimano made the
greatest reels and rods ever. Suddenly,
they didn't, but Quantum did.

Money talks. KVD scores big with Quantum,
probably stick with what pays the bills :)

Im sure he doesn't "need" the money he receives from his sponsors. He has won enough already, as for design? This is probably more of the situation than one would think. Put yourself in his shoes for a moment,... he has made his name what it is,,..

Im imagining that the new lures, and gear that is made with influence from him, is more of interest to him than any stuff thats just handed to him. Who can have the opportunity to design something with the companies actual "backing", to a point that your design is a top priority, and success eminent. Wouldnt you like to design stuff that you actually need, rather than stuff the company wants to sell.

A new spinnerbait might be nice. But the new deeper diving jerkbait they recently came out with is more of a "new" lure than re-inventing the wheel. I know other manufacturers have deep diving jerkbaits, but I dont think they dive as deep, and still provide the action that was sought after. This type of scenerio is something that would drive any angler to be more loyal. A bait that fills a need, you designed, and it actually works well.  Wouldn't you "work" a bit harder, with more diligence, and stick with that sponsor? I know I would, this is something money cant replace, does he get some kickback? maybe, but do you think he "needs" it

Quantum is more than just a company.  There are people there who have built a solid relationship both personally and professionally with Kevin.

Leaving for money is not a wise choice when you have no connection with the new brands employees.  Its like packing up all your things, saying goodbye to your friends and family and moving to Argentina for a job that barely pays more.

An old adage comes to mind "dance with the one that brought you".

Maybe if all of his designed products didn't meet his needs or the needs intended for the everyday and or weekend angler he may consider a move, there is no way we can actually speak for the man himself but, I believe unless Strike King, Nitro, Quantum and others does something that he knows will not perform or no longer performs to the same intense demands he places upon himself and his equipment that he will continue to stay and help create the best possible product for all involved in the sport.

He has a nack for making good products better, he has surrounded himself with some of the best out there, I think the same can be said for many anglers, like Crews, Howell, Biffle, Kline, Brauer, just to name a few who have had or is beginning to make a great impact on this sport, I think that companies who are looking to make an impact in this sport realize just how important it is to have a KVD like individual that helps to make their already good products even better.

He could. And eventually, he probably will.

Im not sure why he would go from Nitro to Ranger? Yes Ranger makes a great boat but..... Nitro is on top of their game too. Plus Bass Pro Shops and Fishing Holdings LLC, are partners, Which includes Ranger, Triton, and Stratos. As for the other sponsors, I think he will stick with what he has for the most part.

I agree and I would also like to see it happen.

KVD is aligned with all the big sponsors already that can probably give him both the most sponsor money, and, the most resources for R&D to create and test new equipment.  Quantum(Zebco), Strike King, Bass Pro Shops, Oakley, Toyota, Mustad, Plano, Mercury, MotorGuide, Humminbird...unless he wants to start fishing  high end Japanese gear like Megabass over Quantum I don't really see him switching to anyone else in any of those other categories.

I personally wouldn't understand a move. Strike King is one of the best bait companies on the market. I love my Nitro Boat (Best Value of all bass boats IMO). Quantum I think gets over shadowed by other companies, It is still a leader in rods and reels and makes a solid product when it comes to high end gear like the Smoke and Exo. I think moving to Shimano and G Loomis would be a sideways move. Only time I see him changing sponsors is if there is a new up and coming company that he like. I heard that 13 made a push for him when they arrived but couldn't throw enough cash his way to get him to bite.

KVD is sponsored by Johnny Morris who is a big fish in the business and owns Ranger Boats etc, BPS and nearly everything else not owned by Pure Fishing. Why would KVD change he works hard to keep what he has earned.

There are contractual obligations between sponsors and sponsor"ees" so "jumping ship" isn't always as easy as it seems.  Besides, who's to say he doesn't already have about the sweetest deal going?

Does this mean I'll be able to buy a Ranger at my local BPS store soon?
