Ned Rig first timer

Well I finally decided to take the Ned Rig leap. I have a local lake around 160 acres that gets hammered(20+ bass boats on a Saturday). I have been having a hard time catching fish on it no matter how finese. I decided to spend 5 hours today and fish only the Ned rig.  Well I caught 13 in the 10"-16" range! This is by far the best trip to this lake I have ever had!

Great bait for heavily pressured waters. You'll get a tank every now & then too!

I honestly don't care about catching a tank on this lake. It know for 10"ers. I have some really good lakes within a hour of me if I wanna make a trip. This lake is less than 15 min but the fishing is tough. I'm just glad I finally found something that might work here.

I had a similar experience with the Ned rig, 4 dinks in about 2 hours, and the bite was awful so I was happy with them.

That crazy little bait killed em while I fished dale Hollow Lake his spring.  I would not have expected it to work so well all the way out to 20 foot deep. I caught a lot of 5+ pound smallies on it.

Loving the Ned Rig myself. Have the same experiences the last two weeks. I even took my wife out who has been frustrated with fishing this year. It was slow at first and then as I was fishing the front of the boat I hear from her in the back....

"I think I am stuck on a log, can you help me" I turn around and her "log" came out of the water and I said... "um, I am sorry but your log is a bass, you may want to try and land it honey .. lol!

Ended up catching 10 bass in the 1 lb-2lb range, 4 catfish (which seem to really like the Ned Rig also) and a couple of nice sized crappie. 

But it seems like the lighter the jig head, the better results I am getting out of it.

That's half the fun of the Ned Rig... everything seems to like it!  I've caught some big catfish, bullhead, huge freshwater drum (sheepshead), carp, black and white crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, pickerel, pike, and of course, largemouth and smallmouth bass on the little bait.

I agree about the light jighead.  I use the 1/20 most of the time but switch to a heavier one for deep water.

It's a great bait to increase the fishing action when things are slow, and an excellent choice to rig up for kids and people who aren't fishermen.

Will the trd float if fished weightless? I bet the fish would tear that up!
