Power Pro Super Slick 8

Do any of you use this line? I recently bought some to try on my spinning set up, and so far I am not very impressed. I really like regular power pro braid, but first time out this let me down pretty hard. To start, when tying knots the braid almost seemed to separate and fray a little while tightening them, then right off the bat I got two wind knots that I was not able to get out whatsoever, that never happens with regular power pro for me. After those two the line behaved for the next hour I was out fishing from shore but I don't have too much faith in the stuff at the moment. I'm going to leave it on and see if this continues. Anyone have similar issues, or do you think I just got a bad spool?

i dont like slick 8 either, the weave doesnt seem to be very tight.

Odd. I really like it. I got a great deal last summer on 
a 1500 yard spool of 15# test and now have it on a
number of my spinning reels. Have regular PP in 10#
on at least one spinning reel, and 20# regular on my
bait caster.

I thought I'd not like SS8, but have been pleasantly 
surprised by it to the point where I'd likely buy it over
regular next time.

I'm wondering if you got an old, or bad spool. I think
you can email PowerPro and explain the problem. 
From memory, I believe they will send you a new spool,
or something.

I started using it for flipping,tried it on spinning tackle but prefer regular power pro. it casts better on casting tackle also.

I gave it a fair test for a full season and ended up hating it. It's too supple so you get wind knots very easily, the abrasion resistance is poor, and the weave comes undone quicker than any other braid I've used. It does cast smoother than original PP but there are so many better 8 strand braids out there.

If it continues I will probably contact them. Also, for some reason, it seems to be "rougher" going through my spinning rod guides than regular power pro. I'll give it a few weeks on the rod and see how it performs going forward. Worst case I just cut it all off if it gives me nightmares. I'm hoping it proves me wrong though.

That doesn't sound right. My SS8 is as smooth 
as a baby's bottom going through my guides.
Especially compared to regular PP.

If its rougher something is wrong. Ive tried a bunch of braid and s8s is the quietest and very smooth compared to others. Its my favorite at the moment but Iv been trying out GAMMA Torque and this stuff is pretty nice not as quiet as s8s but strong and tight weave and more subtle.

Add me to the list of fans of Super Slick 8.  Yes it can fray a bit. It's got 8 strands of filaments, what would you expect? I keep an eye out for loose loops of line on my spinning reels to reduce the chance of wind knots. I don't believe the suppleness adds to more wind knots. I used to get more wind knots when using Fireline which was very stiff when new. 

Overall, I like it and will continue to use it.

I tried the SS8 after using regular PowerPro and I hated it.  It was quiet and casted far but the wind knots drove me up the wall.  The line is so supple that once you get a wind knot you're pretty much out of luck trying to undo it and end up cutting chunks of line out, and then end up with little splice knots that ruin the casting aspect as the knots now go through the guides.  I switched back to regular PowerPro.

I use SS8 on most of my setups and it's awesome. I just went back to it today on my Senko setup.

Any issues with the #20 lb. braid on your baitcaster ? What are your tips for using such a light weight braid on your baitcaster ?

I have it on 2 spinning reels, in 15# and 20# and love it. Its smooth and quiet, casts great. 

I got a few wind knots at first but it was my fault for filling spool up a bit too far. Stripped a bit off and never a problem since.

Update

After using the line more I am going to cut it off and spool on some 10lb braid I have lying around until I can find a replacement. I kept getting wind knots, no matter the conditions, and it still feels rough going through the guides. I want to like the stuff but having to cut off 30 feet of line every 50 casts because of giant wind knots (That I can't even undo like is usual when I use normal PP) is unusable to me. I'm going to send them an email about it and see what they say, if they offer up another spool I will try it out but if they don't, or that spool is equally as terrible, I will probably never touch the stuff again.

Very strange experience. Did you contact PP
to see what they'd do for you? Maybe they 
would send you a spool of regular as a replacement...

I just sent them an email describing my experience. I didn't beg them for another spool, but said I hope it was just a bad spool and that I was very reluctant to get any more based off this experience. If they send me another great, if not I might try some 832. I have some cheap bass pro xps dark green braid lying around that hasn't done me wrong and I will probably put that on in the meantime so I can still use the rod. But one way or another I need some more quality 15lb his-vis braid.

Anyway, Braided line recommendation:  Seaguar Smackdown 20#  lb test. I have two and a half seasons with this it it is a fantastic all-around Braid. There have been no problems with windknots or tangles.

I have 20# on my Ci4 2500 and a Chronarch 50mg. I like it a lot. Only complain would be the weave can come undone a bit. Had some hooks actually get stuck in the braid like it would a rope. Got the hook and didn't look to have damaged the braid.

I have been using Super Slick on my saltwater surf gear for a few years now, and haven't looked back. I have heard many mixed opinions on it, but I love it. The majority of my experience is in the salt, fishing in gnarly boulder fields for striped bass. It seems to hold up well to abrasion in my opinion. It casts better than any braid I have ever fished. And it is super sensitive. I will admit, it is a bit discomforting when I cut the tag end of a knot, and see the it fraying away...however, I have never had a knot break. I have also been using all season this year on my LMB gear...no issues at all. When you cast, be sure to manually close your bail by hand, and pull the line tight onto the roller before beginning your retrieve. This should eliminate any issues with knot you may be having.

That was another thing I wasn't too happy with when I was using it. 

I actually picked up some yellow 832 to try out instead. I'm hoping I will be happy with that.

@IgotWood Over the past couple years I have been doing that exclusively for the reasons you stated, it does help but it seems to me the loops are forming on the cast.

I use the KVD Line and Lure Conditioner every time I head out to go fishing. It really seems to help keep the braid running smooth and the weave appears to stay together.

I used the Sufix 832 15# I bought for the first time today. I liked it a LOT better than the super slick I had on. Weave seemed tighter and held better, felt smoother, NO WIND KNOTS THANK GOD. Looks like I am going to stick with that for a while.

Power Pro did get back to me after I contacted them and said to send them a piece of the line to test. I decided I didn't want to deal with the hassle of shipping, waiting for them, and then the potential "we found nothing wrong with the line" response. I'll just steer clear of it for a while. Won't need anymore 15# yellow for a couple years.

I like regular PP, slick I tried out and don't feel like it was that much better.  I did like it on my baitcasters better though.
