Hey all, question which may seem obvious but I haven't a clue. Is there a proformance advantage or disadvantage to a "low profile" baitcaster as opposed to a "regular" baitcaster?

In general, lp reels are lighter, more comfortable to palm and have less line capacity.  Round reels are generally more powerful.  There are exceptions however.

A lower profile gives you more control and leverage when you are "palming" the reel while retrieving the lure. rather than holding the rod with a finger in the "hook" of the rod. (behind and under the reelseat) reeling without palming is more tiring than you'd imagine. I will use that hook to cast but then quickly shift to palming before the lure hits the water. Deep diving crankbaits

Thats harder to explain than I thought.,... maybe try this: next time your at a basspro, or other large tackle dealer.  pick up a rod with a low profile reel on it, the side that doesnt have the handle, stuff it in your palm. hold it there for a while, jig it a few times while reeling. then try the same with a round reel, you should notice a difference. imagine your cranking in a big bladed spinnerbait (which provides alot of torque) that more comfy low profile reel will assist with the gained leverage

Comfort will also depend on the size of the reel. A 100 size round reel feels great in my hands and a 50 size is simply amazing. I have large hands though. Different strokes... Try to handle and palm both low profile and round versions and see what is the most comfortable for you.

I don't completely palm a reel or switch hands to retrieve and a low profile reel is still by far more comfortable from my experience.  The lower they sit on the reel the better.

I use both types,4600c4 and revos, orras. they all have there place . i use 1 round reel for jig flipping, and 3 low profile for the other flippers. and a combination of round, low profile for other types. I just can't get rid of my round reels, they just seem to work better for me at times.

I was thinking more along the lines of say, a Pflueger Supreme as opposed to a Supreme Low Profile, not so much a round reel like an Ambassador.

I think you may be confused because of the way they advertise fishing reels in general.  Some refer to a reel like the mentioned Pflueger Supreme as a LP reel and others choose not to .   Just know that they are the same reel, as long as it is a baitcaster, the only difference is in the wording.
