What's the best knot to use with 1 and 2 lb test lines? I have been trying to use a Uni-Knot, and it just makes too much friction and breaks in tying it. Would the Polomar be better? Thanks for any replies!

On tiny pieces of tippet, I'll use a clinch/improved or a loop for really finicky trout.  Outside of fly tippet for spooky trout, I don't think I ever use anything that fine.

I have some very fine braid I use for river finesse fishing, and I use a San Diego Jam knot, with at least 7 wraps. If I'm feeling particularly lacking in confident, I'll use a double SDJ knot.

I've always used a palomar with fireline.  Worked great for me.

I always use a palomar, but make sure to lube the line and be extra careful when clinching the knot to avoid line burn (mono and fluoro).

Are you using plenty of lubrication (spit) when
you tighten the knot? That is often the critical
piece as no lube=high friction=heat=weakness.

ooops. Thought the title said fireline.  I withdraw my vote for the palomar.

i actually started using the trilene knot this winter for ice fishing (1lb line) and it has carried over to my summer fishing but i only twist it 4 times instead of 6

I use an improved clinch, or a Duncan loop for very thin line.

Yeah, I use plenty of spit, but it doesn't seem to help. I will try the other knots that have been mentioned.
