Al Wolbach Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I am bringing my family to the Charleston area the second week of July. I plan to bring my pontoon boat since the grandchildren will be with us this trip. I remember a railroad bridge next to the Cypress Garden launch and if my memory serves me correctly it may be a tight fit for a pontoon boat. Can anyone tell me if I can navigate it under the bridge? As I recall the bridge is low but I can lower the bimini top and width may also be a problem. I plan to launch at Bushy Park then run to dam and back. We are staying at Foster Creek Villas at the Naval Weapons Station. Thanks Quote
keeganzpapa Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I will tell you this, and you can take it to the bank. I have had several friends think they could float close to the Naval Weapons Station yard and sight see. There is a distance you must keep from it, and all military vessels. Learn it and exercise these requirements unless you want to be staring down a BUNCH of vessels with some very nice firepower trained on you and your occupants. They just don't fool around. Quote

I was stationed at the Naval Weapons Station for 8 years. I am familiar with the security practices. Your are correct it is not a joke but the area I am asking about is not around the weapons station security area, but thanks for the info. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 20, 2016 Super User Posted June 20, 2016 http://www.sciway.net/sc-photos/berkeley-county/cooper-river.html Bushy Park Boat Landing into the Back River looks like a straight shot to the Cooper. Pull that map down a little south & the satellite shot shows it pretty good. A-Jay 1 Quote

The Back River is the route I had planned to travel and the bridge in question, next to the Cypress Garden launch, is actually on the Back River. I had mistakenly called the Cooper River. my mistake. You are correct it is a straight shot to the cooper and eliminates running a long trip running in brackish water(Cooper River). Thanks again......Al 1 Quote
