It works just as well as floro with a few differences. Namely, mono has better knot strength, and if you fish in very clear water floro is more invisible but I don't really think the fish are that line shy anyway.  So the answer to your question is that it works and works well.

Fluorocarbon lines are monofilament lines.

I was waiting for someone to chime in with that. I'm quite certain the OP is referring to nylon monofilament.
