BrianMRetter Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I have access to a rare honey hole that seldom gets fished. It's an old stone quarry ranging from 20-60ft deep, is spring fed & is the clearest water I've ever seen. Alot of days I can see the bottom at 20ft. I've never caught a bass under 2lbs there, usually on green Pumpkin senkos, & there have been 2 10lb bass caught there that I know of. Someone suggested I try swimbaits to target larger bass, but I have no idea where to start. The fish mostly cruise the ledges....Any suggestions what lures I should be looking at? Quote
blckshirt98 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Huddleston 68 Special or other swimbaits if you're looking to catch one of the big ones! If the water is spring clear try one of the phantom colors on the Hudds! 1 Quote
BrianMRetter Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Wow those are awesome looking lures...and heavy! Will I need a technique specific rod for the 2oz lure? That's pretty heavy. I have a 6' 9" MH/F Casting rod rated to 1oz :b Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted June 11, 2016 Super User Posted June 11, 2016 If you don't want to get into swimbaiting, then I would recommend the larger size Keitech Fat Impacts, or another 6-7 inch soft plastic swimbait that you can rig on a screwlock or jighead. However, if I had a honey hole like that, with 10 pounders in it, I would buy a swimbait setup and spend all day throwing huds and glide baits. Check out on TW, the Dobyn's Fury rods, they have a nice swimbait for for $120, that would be your best bet. Good luck! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 11, 2016 Super User Posted June 11, 2016 Try the BBZ-1 in slow sink 6" size. A very productive mid-range size swimbait. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 11, 2016 Super User Posted June 11, 2016 Most hard body swimmers over 2 oz require special tackle to fish properly, what tackle to you plan to use? Tom Quote
