riverbasser Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I called it without opening picture. After the other review I looked closer change my answer to a garter. Quote

drew4779 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Hard to tell from that photo but definitely not venomous based on the shape of the head. 3 Quote

Correct. You'll only contract Ebolaids if it bites you. 2 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 10, 2016 Super User Posted June 10, 2016 Definitely a black mamba. I saw one the other day at the zoo with my grandson. They are so deadly just a hard look can kill you! 1 Quote

And these are grown men ......I know it's been a while Darren but since we are on the subject of snakes I caught a pretty cool one in the back yard a month or so back......A pine woods snake. Very beautiful little snake.Google it if you get the chance. Interesting enough they are finding out more and more colubrids with slight venom. 1 Quote

Super User Gundog Posted June 10, 2016 Super User Posted June 10, 2016 Mildly venomous?? That's too venomous for me. I don't hate snakes but am cautious of them and tend to leave them alone as long as they leave me alone. 1 Quote

Besides mildly venomous in the herp world usually means it paralyses its prey, this case, tiny toads, crickets, worms... you know toads secretion would probably have a worse effect on a larger person. It's all relative and yes I agree, leave them alone. This instance I was checking the yard for the venomous species since I have little ones. I knew it wasn't a viper.... I actually thought it was a hatching yellow rat when I caught it. Quote

I'll have to research the colubrid info. My brother has been a herp nut since before I was born (13 years older than me). He survived a canebrake bite when I was 12. We always talk snakes, share pix, and so on. We'll be breeding some pythons in a year or two (when they get big enough). Took youngest son fishing last weekend and he spotted a beautiful black rat snake on the dock. He's almost 12. Some of you guys here would have killed this beautiful snake!! Always remember: Snakes=rodent control. 3 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 10, 2016 Super User Posted June 10, 2016 That's awesome man, I will admit my 10 yr will hold his Az. Mtn King but he would not pick up a wild snake like that. My oldest daughter loves to catch the frogs, toads and lizards. 1 Quote
