Braid Size for Plueger President Limited Edition Spinning Reel?

Okay, so Bass season is almost open where I live and I can finally try out my new Pflueger President Limited Edition spinning reel i bought back in February with the tax refund. I am planing to spool it up with braid as I've never tried it before and figured this would be a great time to start since this reel comes with a braid-ready aluminum spool but when I look at the specs for my size 30 reel under braid capacity it says that 8lb is the highest pound test it's made for...is this correct? If it holds 6 - 8lb mono/flouro shouldn't it be able to handle an equal size diameter braid line (which lets say we're comparing to 6lb flouro would be somewhere in the 20lb range (guessing here, please feel free to correct)? What do others have on their President LE reels?

anywhere from 10-20lb braid would be my suggestion for a spinning reel.  i'm right in the middle of that range with 15lb on my pflueger patriarch spinning reel.

Is Power Pro Slick any good? That appears to be the cheapest at Dick's, just wondering if there's a reason for that.

Scratch that...employee didn't know what he was talking about...they have the Power Pro Spectra green too according to online.

8lb isn't the highest it's made for, it's just line capacity if you choose to use that line. Honestly not many people use less than 10lb on a spinning rods so I am not really sure why they even bothered. A 10 and 15lb capacity marking would have been far more useful. 10 is like the mono equivalent of 2lb. So you really don't gain much by going any smaller. No one needs 300 yards of braided line on their reel for any freshwater bass application. I just got a 30 size Pflueger Supreme and will probably put 15lb braid on it.

My rod is a 7ft. Number Eight Black Out medium action. I'll probably go with the 15lb. braid.

I have 20lb power pro braid on my supreme xts(9230 & 9235) and it works great on them, I think anything from 10#-20# braid is great on spinning tackle.  Use some cheap mono as backing so you get the most out of the spool of braid, since braid is expensive.

Yes. PPSS is quite good. I was a "regular" PP user
prior to securing a 1500 yard spool of 15# PPSS
for a great deal.

I love the SS version. I still don't think much over 10#
is absolutely necessary, but I got a 15# spool and am
using on most (soon to be all) of my spinning reels.

It is smooth, strong and really nice  I highly recommend.

Consider PPS on your spinning rig. I find it very soft and pliable and the best casting braid I've tried on my spinning gear.  I use 10 pound on my Pflueger 20/25 reels and 20 pound on my 30's.

I would use ten pound, (the actual breaking strength is about double the advertised test so it would actually be twenty pound test) it is unlikely that you would use a leader over fifteen pound, so the leader knot will always be the weak spot.  Fifteen will work fine to, but I like the thin 8#-10# test braid because of the increased casting distance.  Just change the leader strength to match the different situations you face.  But you can use as heavy a line as you want, I don't really know why they chose those pound tests.

Consider USA Braid - it's Spectra line. You can order from Walmart online, delivered free to a local store.  500 yard spool for about $25. I'm partial to orange color as I can see it better and use 10 or  15# with a flouro leader.  This line was recommended to me by a forum member a few years ago, SirSnookalot, who offered very good practical advice.

Big fan of the slick8 power pro. I have 2 size 30 pluger supremes. 15# on my dropshot rig and 20# on my senko rig, both often with flouro leaders. I like the hi vis yellow for visibilty line watching. No backing for me.  When it gets worn of faded on one end i strip it off and reverse it.
