Okay, I found a really sweet deal in my local Wal-Mart, $25 for a Falcon Bucoo Trapcaster 7ft. MH rod. It has micro guides which i have never tried before...are they any good or should i look for a deal on a rod with regular guides?

BUY it... If it's the Walmart near you, do they have more?  I have a meeting in Waterbury and would swing by at lunch and get one...  The Bucoo is a very nice rod at $100 and insane for $25

Worth every penny and then some.  Micros aren't meant for every application, but some rods benefit from their use.  You could probably buy all they have and double your money selling them.

That's an amazing deal on a great rod. I have the lizard dragger version with micro guides. One warning- once you go micro it's hard to look at another rod. The guides look clunky in comparison. Get it.

I had five MH Daiwa baitcasting rods with regular guides. A mishap with hatch on a friends SUV took out two of the rods (crunch, bye tips!). I really like having a bunch of identical setups so that when I switch from one combo to the next the "feel" is exactly the same.

I could not get the identical Daiwa rods anymore as that series has been discontinued but I was able to pickup two of the same rods but with micro guides. I now prefer the rods with the micro guides (lighter and feels more sensitive to me).

If I was a braid with leader user I might have second thoughts about micro guides but I am a straight monofilament guy so no worries here.

I actually own one of the Falcon Bucco Trapmasters with the micro guides.  I fish light tackle stripers here on the Chesapeake Bay with it. It throws 1/2 to one ounce rattle trap style baits excellently.  I can use it for any treble bait but it is one of my go to rods for the stripers in the fall.

I bought the 7ft. one tonight. They have a 6'6" left that isn't a trap caster but is a M or MH and is $25 and they have a 7ft. Pitchin' Rod that for some reason is still $99.

Micros vs larger guides:  Some say micros cast farther, maybe, but most good rods with bigger guides will cast farther than necessary anyway.  Difference will be minor, IMHO.  They don't pass knots as well as bigger guides, sometimes not at all depending on the knot and the pound test of the leader.  The biggest difference is that since they are lighter, the rod, any rod, will be more sensitive than if it had heavier guides.  The lighter the guides, the more sensitive the rod will be.  This can be very significant, easy to feel.  The higher the modulus of the rod the greater the difference.

Very nice rods. A huge steal for $25. If you don't like it you can sell it for profit

I live south of the border and have the same problem.  My local Walmarts carry squat.  The one further away did have a couple Bucoo's about a year ago, but none were priced anywhere near (meaning low price) what other Walmarts were selling the rods for.  Neither of us are lucky enough to live near the RIGHT Walmart.  :(

I buy my lures from Dick's Sporting Goods whenever they have a sale.  Prices are better than Walmarts then.  My local Walmarts wouldn't know what a sale is on fishing gear.

OP.  You got a great buy.  Enjoy.
