What would you pay for a NIB reel that has been discontinued?

Would you pay $100 more than its MSRP when it was being made?  Obviously I'm talking about well thought of reels.  And not reels that sold for $99.99.

MSRP has one word in it that will let you know....it is suggested.  Personally, i wouldn't but i am no collector or purveyor of high end fishing gear either.

Too many variables. There are some that I think I would, but most probably not. For example, a NIB Chronarch D7 could maybe get $100 over its MSRP.

All depends on the reel, demand for the reel, and how rare the reel comes up for sale, how rare they're in new condition.

If it's a shimano curado or chronarch e series NO! A few idiots pay too much for them on fleabay and now the price of them is insane. Like my ma always said though there is an ass for every seat.

I just think back to the days in school when they had the slogan "Don't Do Drugs"  When I see the retarded prices of something like a fishing reel,a lure, or a old car etc. I understand the reason some do it and others I don't. Still doesn't make it make any more sense. 

I think I could find a new reel with a warranty of equal quality that I could fish with.

I would possibly pay a bit more than retail for something if I felt the reel was the exact fit for what I needed or wanted. I have yet to do this but would consider it if something happened to one or several reels.

The E series Shimano Curado and Chronarch reels are now going for considerably more now than a year or more ago. NIB reels will easily clear $200 with some going into the $250 mark with regularity.

The Chronarch D is the best example. I believe the MSRP was $229. Mint they clear $300 pretty regularly especially the D7. I recall seeing one sell for over $400.

Any limited run reel that was built of a popular platform or that had a special paint job will also be worth good money. TDZ IZE personal orders, ITOs, AOIs, and various MB Alphas and Steez based reels draw good money.

No but I would pay face value on a NIB tournament pro. 5 years of hard use on this thing and its still going strong.

Value of a reel or anything for that matter depends solely on the consumer. For me the answer is a big fat no. I think it also says a lot about the seller to ask that price, so that's reason enough to not get my business. The only reels that I feel exceed current market reels in terms of quality and performance are Tdz variants and the D series Chronarch. Even those reels are lacking current day technologies such as X ship, etc. The only person I see spending money like that is a collector who has a hole on his shelf. The D7 retailed for 300 bucks by the way.

from the title i assumed that's what it was....  and the answer is still no!  there's a shop in very North GA that still had 2 of them brand new in the box last time i was in there like a month or so ago.  if they were bringing $300, i'd go buy them both and sell them!

The Curado E was the last Curado with the "Made in Japan" stamp and the last model before Shimano did that mindless "step every reel down one level".

I don't agree with that assessment. Most people I know with I series shimanos prefer them over their e's. 

The G's may not have been an improvement, but they did cost less. It seems to me Shimano listened to their customers and IMO really stepped their game up. Their newer reels cost more, but I think they're worth it.

I wouldn't because I'm not a collector, but if it was truly something rare or special like a tdz aoi, td ito or ize personal order I could understand.  But something that is so darn common makes me laugh.
