Chance_Taker4 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I am in the market for a new rod and have it narrowed down to these to rods. Which one is better? I am looking for light weight, sensitivity, balancing and comfort. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 7, 2016 Super User Posted June 7, 2016 No experience with the M1. The Savvy stay away imo if you are using it for bottom contact/sensitivity. The rod was a dead stick compared to other rods in the range. 2 Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 It'll double as a Spinnerbait and Jig rod. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 7, 2016 Super User Posted June 7, 2016 Moving baits would be fine. Maybe a Dobyns Fury owner can chime in about sensitivity. That might be a better option. 1 Quote

Became my spinnerbait rod, does fine for that. Plenty of other rods much better for jigs. Haven't used the Phenix so can't comment there. Quote
mojojojo Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Phenix M1 Rods are great. Very good sensitivity, well built 2 Quote

blckshirt98 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 The M1 is fantastic, I hope you get one and can give some feedback on the rod! Quote
Hogsticker Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 The Savvy is one of the least sensitive sticks I've ever used. Good balance though. I would say the M1s sensitivity is about average, same with the Recon. The original unsanded Recons had a little better sensitivity but they were prone to breakage. Quote

Not really sure what average sensitivity means since it's purely subjective, but it's a nice stick. the m1 rods look very nice and i've heard good things about them, but never tried one. i have a fury, have had champions before and have a couple champion extremes but never used a savvy. i've never really heard anyone rave about them so for the price i'd probably look elsewhere. too many good options at that price point to gamble on it. 1 Quote
faygo1979 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I have a M1 that I use as a jig rod and I can say I am really impressed for the price. When I compare it to the St Croix Rage, Avid, fenwick ateos I believe the M1 is a better rod. I have not tried a Savvy only the Fury so I can’t give you a real comparison other than the M1 is night and days better than the fury. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 7, 2016 Global Moderator Posted June 7, 2016 At one time the M1 was at the top of the Phenix line. I got the MH/F to use as my dedicated bottom contact rod and really liked it. It is light, sensative, strong and balance's perfectly with a Curado I. It is now my dedicated spinnerbait / chatterbait rod only because I wanted something a little heavier for the waters I fish. Mike 1 Quote

Mike FYI I don't believe the M1 was ever the top of the line rod from Phenix. The Ultra MBX rods were there top of the line rod prior to the K2. Quote

Kevinator1 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Yeah I don't get the Savvy bashing...I have 2 and I also have 2 Champion XP's and there isn't that much difference in sensitivity....besides, when I pitch my finger is always touching the line and I'm watching the line where it enters the water to see if it jumps or moves in a different direction for bites. Just my opinion. Quote
