The Little Tabs In PowerPro Boxes?

So just a dumb question, but what are those tabs they include in PowerPro line used for?  I've used them by sticking like 2-3 on the spool to prevent slipping before spooling the braid, but, they don't seem to fit any spool with any sense of proper sizing, so I'm assuming they weren't intended to be used for that.

Are you talking about the small, rectangular pieces that are like a piece of tape? If so, use it to secure the loose end of the line to the spool so the line doesn't fall off the spool when not being used.

In regards to keeping the braid from slipping on the spool, tape is not the way to do it. The best way to prevent that is to spool the reel partially with some cheap mono before putting on the braid. Use a double-Uni to connect the lines. Mono (or copolymer or fluoro) doesn't slip on the spool, but braid may. Doing this also allows one to use less braid and save money to spend on other fishing gear.

I've used 2 wraps of electrical tape for years and it's never failed yet. It's actually a pretty common method.

A guy at Bass Pro just told me that. I wonder if you could use a wide rubber band to prevent slippage?

Rubber bands rot and crack fairly quickly! I use them to keep my 2 piece rods together and they break down quickly.  I actually usually use mono for backing, but was going to spool up a reel with 50lb PowerPro and was considering going straight braid with no mono on it because of capacity.

Maybe they are for labeling the outside of the reel to help you remember the date you re-spooled and with what.  I use little pieces of paper that come on those annoying return label stickers you always get in the mail.

For spools that don't have great line capacity I do electrical tape and then spool up with straight braid (if I might be getting near the end of the spool on a long cast, I don't want to get to a connection knot for backing). If it has good line capacity or I am using thinner braid (<40) I will use mono backing.
