Connorwat Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Does the Lews bb1hz 6.4:1 have anti-reverse? I am confused on whether it has anti-reverse or no (zero) anti reverse. Will it let me reel backwards or not. Thx Quote
Connorwat Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 @racedad .So it doesn't have anti reverse? Quote
hawgenvy Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 I'm not aware of any contemporary baitcaster reels that do not have a fixed anti-reverse mechanism. Unlike many spinning reels, you can not switch off the anti-reverse on a baitcaster to reel it backwards. You must instead rely on the drag mechanism to let line out when fighting a fish. Of course, you can also free the spool to unwind with the thumb switch as you do when casting. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 All casting reels have an anti reverse. Most use a one way roller clutch. What you may be thinking of is a lews model that uses the old style ratchet and dawg mechanical AR. Not sure if it's the model you mentioned or not. The theory is for the AR to have some hesitation to "give the fish time to eat the bait". I don't ascribe to the theory personally. Quote

Onvacation Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 I had nightmares just thinking about a baitcaster that would allow the spool to run freely in reverse as well. I woke up sweating and was sure I was still wrapped in 20k yards of braid. 2 Quote
loudcherokee Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 The BB1 has a multi stop reverse. You're not reeling backwards, it only moves just a bit. The BB1Z has "zero-reverse", hence the Z. This is Lews Anti Reverse. If you want anti reverse look for the models with the Z in the model #. LC Quote
