er34323 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Going to buy my first baitcaster setup. All my previous fishing experience has been soley spinning reels. The reel I'm going to order is Diawa Tatula CT, since I heard nothing but great reviews on this reel. Now I'm looking for a MH/F rod around 100-120 dollars. My eyes are on the Tatula XT, but I am also considering the Fenwick HMG and the Falcon Bucoo. Can anyone give me any insight on these rods? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 3, 2016 Super User Posted June 3, 2016 I like my HMGs, but no experience with the others. Someone will be along shortly to give you a bit of feedback. Or you could buy all three, compare them and get back to us with your impressions. You know you want to. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 3, 2016 Super User Posted June 3, 2016 I'm a Fenwick fan but before you buy any of those, do a search and look for the regular Tatula, not the Tatula XT. The reason being is that rod was really good at the $150 price point but they can be found for $99 and when you compare the regular Tatula to the HMG, the Tatula wins out but the HMG is no slouch either but for the same price the Tatula is much better. X2, the tatula is the one you want. Quote

X3 But don't know where you can find them for $99. I found a 7' MR for $103.29....one left on ebay. Just bought this same rod used...$100 shipped. Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 x4 on the Tatula. I found mine on Walmart.com but they seem to have a pretty depleted inventory. Sportman's Outfitters has them at $119 and free shipping which is a solid deal. Actually dropped them down to $109 now. Get one. http://www.sportsmansoutfitters.com/daiwa-tatula-freshwater-baitcast-fishing-rods/ Quote
Krevo81 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I own three standard Tatulas. (MRB, MHFB, and HF) They are without a doubt the best rods at their pricepoint that I own. Absolutely worth even standard retail price, but I got all three of mine on sale. They are strong, sensitive, and extremely lightweight. My favorite combo at the moment is a 7' MRB Tat with a ConceptA on it. Whole setup comes in right under 12 ozs, can be fished all day, and I can bomb lightweight baits with it. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted June 3, 2016 Super User Posted June 3, 2016 the regular tatula (not the xt) is an awesome rod. My 6'10" MH/F tatula is one of the most versatile rods i've ever used. It out performs some of my higher priced rods. Quote
er34323 Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Looks like I'm going to get the Tatula then. Thanks for the great feedback! Quote
Grantman83 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 The xts are awesome:. I figured they were just re hashes of the old lexa rod series but they are crazy light. Picked up a mhf and glass cranking rod mh. Both are solid rods and much better than I expected Quote
GoRavens Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I got a tatula xt and it feels a lot like my Duckett ghost Quote
