Lure Help

I feel i am getting bad information from my friends about bass lures. I have some grubs i use, and crank baits but nothing has been working. Please help me. I need to know a few lures that work really well, i am going to be skipping docks hopefully this year. What jigs are good for that?

Your friends are likely not giving you bad information about bass lures, The information (and lures) may not fit the situation you are fishing. Conditions change, not only from season to season, but day to day and sometimes hour to hour.  It's a learning  process, so don't expect to take it all in overnight. There is no magic lure that will catch fish every time. There are some that come close, but in some situations, another lure is a better choice.

After all that, I'll mention two lures you should learn to use as they will produce under many circumstances. A jig and trailer and a plastic worm.  Glenn put together a very informative video here on how to detect bites when fishing a worm and it applies to jigs as well. Click on the video link above and you should be able to find it fairly easily. 

As far as jigs that are good for skipping under docks, I'm the wrong person to ask.  The majority of time the only lure I skip with is a tube jig.

One of the most reliable baits is a plastic worm of any sort. Texas rig, shakey head and/or drop shot around docks and weed lines. It can be painstaking but it almost always produces fish and it's relatively easy to feel the bites. I would go for that first - you can utilize any worm, the 6" Zoom trick worm is one of my favorites. 

Jigs are a little tougher to fish because there are a lot of variations on how to present them. You can drag them slowly along the bottom, bounce them up and down, swim them, suspend them, or any combination in-between. The fish may not like it one way, but might strike at it another way. It's really just trial and error and practice. I like to pitch heavier football jigs around pilings and hop them once or twice, and just keep going from piling to piling. Jigs haven't produced fish for me like the worm, though.

Dropshot a 4" plastic all day and you'll catch fish.

If I'm skipping docks, more than likely I'm throwing a wacky rigged senko.  Green pumpkin with small purple & green glitter.  9-10-301 - I think that is the number, but I'm not going out to my fishing truck to find out.

skipping docks i use an arky head jig and a craw trailer or a booyah swim jig or a keitech swimjig with a paddle tail
