NRX 852/843MBR

So I recently picked up a 853c for 3/8 and 1/2oz jigs and really do like it.  I'm now considering a second NRX for my t rigs and lightest jigs.  Usually a 1/8 - 1/4oz bullet weight plus plastic anything from a mini d bomb to a 10" worm.  I also like the rods a little lighter than most, don't like to fish a stick that's too heavy.  One other caveat is that i do not like longer rods, the 853 is the longest one i own all others are around 6'8" - 7'.  So my question is what are the real differences between the 852c JWR and the 843 MBR aside from the obvious differences of specs.  Would one really excel over the other for the t rigs application i'm looking for?  I'm sort of leaning toward the 852, but not quite sure that's the right move or if it might actually be too light for me.

Do you mean 842mbr?  The 852 is extra fast vs 842 fast.  Both have very light tips, but the 852 transitions quicker into the back bone.  The 842 is more parabolic but not a noodle.  The back bone on both rods is surprisingly powerful.  The 842 is more versatile and capable with treble hooked baits as well as t-rigs and jigs.  The 852 is a bit more specialized as a t-rig and jig, bottom-contact rod.  Both are awesome rods you can't lose on.

no, i meant the 843MBR since it's the fast rather than x fast i wondered if it might load up a little easier with the baits i was intending on using.  i think the 842MBR would be a little too light/soft for what i'm wanting.  but maybe that train of thought is wrong?  i don't really know...

If your primary technique is t-rigs and bottom contact, I say go for the 852.

Yeah I'm going to say that if you think the 853 is too much rod, the 852 is where you should look.

I have the 843 and 853 and they fish very similarly to me with the obvious difference being the taper. I throw a lot of 1/8 oz jig and trailer on the 853 but maybe I'm spoiled by the Met that rides it. I tend to use "finesse" type reels and 15-20 lb braid so my perception of a rod's ability to handle the low end of its rating is probably skewed.

Of course you should really own the 852 and the 843, but you probably want to stay in your marriage.

I cant speak on the 852, but i do have a 843C mbr and it is a sweet rod i use it for all my T rig do nothing baits ie worms, brush hogs etc and its also my weightless senko / fluke rod to me its the perfect rod for those types of patterns.

its the most sensitive NRX I also have an 873 & 894 it is by far the most sensitive rod I have ever used its the rod that sent me down the NRX collection path

I recently picked up the 852C and it's an awesome rod with a great tip. Perfect for throwing the baits in the range u mentioned. And sensitivity, wow, off the charts. U know exactly what your in contact w on the bottom and the lightest bites are unmistakable.

Do you have any explanation as to why one rod in a series would have a different perceived level of sensitivity over other rods in the same series? I have heard folks claim certain NRX rods have more feel than others but just don't see how this can be. I have the 873 CRR and fight it be very sensitive. Perhaps I need to add the 843 MBR?!

I know a guy that looks like he could be cast on an episode on Duck Dynasty with a name that rhymes with Larry. He will have the scoop on the models in question. If you haven't contacted him I would see what insight he could offer

The -"2" in 852 means 2 power or medium in other rods. 3 power is the lightest you want for weedless rigged T-rig with 3/16-1/4 oz bullet weights. The 852 is a good finesse drop shot rod.

I aint sure if you have a NRX853C JWR G or a NRX853C JWR 

My light t-rig/jig rod feel identical in my hand to my heavy t-rig/jig rod in that they have identical reels, the handles are identical, everything feels the same.

With that in mind I would go with the NRX852 that matches your NRX853!

I guess that's the funny thing is how different everyone can be in terms of the way they fish and how they want the rod to act so to speak....  you guys have officially made this 0% easier than when i started!!!  thanks for the info and opinions though, much appreciated!

Can't speak for your other choice but I own an 852c and I primarily use it for t-rigs both weighted and unweighted.  I could not imagine a more competent rod for it.  Super light and the access to the backbone is immediate.  The connectivity to the tip is fantastic and even the smallest minnow twitches are not only possible but very communicative.  It may not do all the things you want, but if it's for t-rigs, look no further!

I have a 7ft GLX 843C MBR paired with a Chronarch 100SF spooled with 14# Sniper that I use for all t-rigged plastics up to 1/2 oz weights even tho the rod is rated up to 3/4. At first I really didn't like it too much as It has the softest tip of any rod I own. 

But after useing it more and more I've come to really appreciate it's versatility. I can skip with this setup better than I thought. Even tho the lower end rating is 1/4 oz, useing an 1/8 will fit what you're looking for with this rod with no problem, plus it will give you a little lee way. I know you're looking at an NRX, but I can't imagine it being THAT much better. 

Just a thought that I hope helps.

I have no idea why that rod feel more sensitive VS my others the only thing I can think of its defiantly lighter than my other 2 NRX
