Fatdaddy150 Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Any one have one of these new color graphs? Whats the pros and cons of getting one of these? Are they really woth the extra $$$ Tight Lines, Fatdaddy151 Quote
AUTgrPilot Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 I saw the new Lowrance LCX-104 the other day on a pros boat. Impressive system, but d**n is it expensive. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 i dont have one but i saw a whole bunch of them at a show and they are not to me any easier to read than my good ol humminbird 535. Quote
Bud_in_OR Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I have color sonar/GPS (Lowrance) combo at the console and b/w sonar w/color GPS next to it at the bow(PinPoint& Lowrance). If Motorguide/PinPoint come out with a color sonar/GPS combo that interfaces with my trolling motor, this fat boy will own one. I'll have a color GPS for sale(two units in front is one too many). I will never go back to b/w. This is for sonar as well as GPS/chart-plotter....And those Navionics maps...Doggies. Bud Quote
hawghunter Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 I'm also looking for a new locator, the Lowrance LMS 332c is at the top of my list right now. I'm just waiting for one of our local shops to get one in so that I can see it first hand. I have a color hand held GPS and love it. So much easier to distinguish what you looking at in a glance, and I know the Lowrance locator I'm looking at blows away my GPS. I was told that "today's" color units are just about like looking at a lap top monitor! I wish I could afford to go to a 7" screen though..... Something else to note, Lowrance's web site has downloads available that you install on your PC. They are product emulators, you can actually practice using which ever product that you downloaded....... very very cool http://www.lowrance.com/Marine/Products/LMS-332C.asp http://www.lowrance.com/Software/PCSoftware/demos.asp HawgHunter Quote
Bud_in_OR Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 HawgHunter I answered your questions in the other thread. And YES, they get really proud of them after you get past a 6' screen. Sixteen hundred bucks??? Bud Quote
JT Bagwell Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 I am about 90% sure that I am getting ready to order two of these bad boys for my boat. (Humminbird Matrix 97) And you can just about get both of them for the price of 1 Lowrance. I have 2 Lowrance units and a Garmin that I own right now and none of them are worth $1,600 each. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 31, 2005 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 31, 2005 Well J.T., I have to disagree with you on that. I had a couple of Humminbirds and wasn't impressed (very limited options/menu choices; poor detail; kept freezing up or turning off randomly...). I felt handcuffed using them. I now have 2 Lowrance units on my Ranger and love them (X-15mt and X-97). Granted, they are far more technical and complex, so there's a learning curve on them for sure. But really, to get the most out of your depthfinder, you really need to take it off all the auto settings and dive into all the menus and settings. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. For me, a Humminbird is a great choice if you like to turn on your unit and leave it - especially if your main use is just to know how deep it is. But if you like to tweak it to maximize the detail, enjoy deep structure fishing, or are willing to delve into the nitty-gritty of getting everything out of your unit, Lowrance rocks! Now, color screen vs. B&W? Gotta say, I really like the color screens, they offer even more subtle detail you can't see in B&W. But I'll wait another year or two until prices come down a little more. They've already come down quite a bit. Quote
hawghunter Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 JT, that looks like a nice unit, however it is $150 more than the Lowrance that I'm looking at, and the resolution is only 240x320, the Lowrance is 480x480 HH Quote
JT Bagwell Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Hey Hawghunter, If you go a little ways East on your map there (the LMS 332 screen shot) you will be in my town. ;D Glenn, What are you disagreeing with? You think Lowrance units are worth paying $1,600 each? JT Bagwell Quote
Bud_in_OR Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Hey J.T., Please pardon me for butting in. The problem is that Lowrance thinks they are worth $1600. If a person really wants/needs that kind of quality they'll have to suck it up and hope they don't go stone blind looking at the price tag. And....Don't go nuts. this is only an opinion...I totally agree with Glen on Hummingbird sonars. I've fished on quite a few boats that had a Hummingbird and found that if one is used to a Lowrance, a so-called comparable Hummingbird isn't getting it done. One of the Eagle Fish Elite 480 Combos (of my sons) that I mentioned in an earlier post was a gift from me after going fishing with him and spending a day jerking around with a Hummingbird, trying to see things other than surface and bottom. When he switched sonars he asked me if I wanted the Hummingbird. I asked him if he thought it would float. Bud Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 I won't ever get mad at a guy (or girl) for having an opinion that is different than mine. That's what is so great about our country. I will test drive the all new Humminbird units and see how much they have changed since they were bought out. JT Bagwell Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 1, 2005 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 1, 2005 Hi J.T. Basically I was disagreeing with the premise of comparing Humminbird to Lowrance. They're not in the same class. That's not to say Humminbird sucks and everyone should run out and buy a Lowrance. It's just Humminbirds are better suited to those who like to turn it on and leave it, and Lowrance caters to a different market - people who like to manually tweak the settings every time they use it (and sometimes throughout the day). If you've used Humminbird all your life, you'd be overwhelmed and frustrated with a Lowrance. It'd be way too expensive if all you used it for was to find out the depth, and the schools of baitfish. But if you like Humminbird, then go for it! Quote
Nick.Culver Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Good sonar is a must. I wish I had enough money to afford some good electronics. The thing is that you really have to dive in like Glenn said. Lowrance is a demanding product. It makes you have to learn. Nick_Barr it's just a matter of learning how read a graph properly. If you get the right setup you can tell when bass or other fish are darting into balls of bait. It's a whole new world down their when you have high quality electronics. I mean tounament anglers wouldn't have them if they didn't help you tremendously on your fishing. Take a look at Gary Kleins boat. Looks like he has a t.v. screen at his console. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 I had actually been using Lowrance electronics, but now I am switching to Humminbird. Maybe I am the "turn it on and let it go" kind of guy. I will let you all know how the New Humminbirds are now that they have new ownership. JT Bagwell Quote
Guest hydrillagorilla Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 JT- what about the new Hummingbird 987c-SI & 981c-SI. These things look HOT! Anyone out there used or seen these in person yet???? They look like they could turn the sonar world upside down! What are your thoughts? Quote
