Douglas June 20-28

We are taking our Bass Boat and going to Douglas lake on vacation for a week from June 20-28 this year staying at Anchor Campgrounds. We have never fished Douglas Lake before. We will be fishing for Bass primarily.

Can you give us any ideas of what crank baits, swim baits, colors, etc. to have with us for this trip?

Also since our fish finders are older any locations to concentrate on would be great.

From what I have read so far we are coming in a little late in the year for this lake and we will have to go deep for the  bass. Do you agree?

Swimsuits deep on humps and points. Generally that time of year 15-25 feet deep

You are staying in the newest/nicest campgrounds on the lake, good choice. it is near the dam as well. Get a map of the lake and look for humps and points. If you are on the water facing the boat ramp at the dam there is a large hump to your left that holds fish throughout the summer and would be a good place to start. It can be difficult to fish due to boat traffic on weekends, however. Week days are good. The water is stained normally. 

The bass will be deep but can be caught using Texas rigged plastics, Carolina rigged plastics, deep crank baits as well as swimbaits. The latter usually wins the larger tournaments. Shad colored crank baits( and with some chartreuse) and plastics of many colors are favored. Some people will recommend red as a primary color for plastics and others recommend shades of green. Both work. If fishing creature baits such as lizards or brush hogs, I personally prefer watermelon gold or chartreuse pumpkin. If using worms I like grape, purple or some shade of red, red/black or tequila sunrise and I prefer large worms in summer(8-11in). However, many colors will work just some better than others.

If you need any baits/equipment while here Bucks and Bass on Hwy 25/70 in Dandridge( about 10 miles north) can offer most of your tackle needs and good friendly advice. There also is a BPS about 10 miles to the south but fishing advice is limited as most employees are young and inexperienced.

Yes... I just bought a place on Douglas Lake and now have to try to figure out how to fish deep when my entire life I've fished S.Fla style.  Let me know how it goes....
