I used to drink a beer for every bass that I caught. Well then I found senkos. I was fishing out of john boat and all I had were senkos and beer. I loaded the boat with a bunch of beer. I was fishing a three acre pond. Well the Coast Guard showed up three days later as I was still in a drunken stooper.

I got a nice fishing log if anyone wants the excel format to keep track off stuff.

Id like to take a look at it as well if you dont mind. I might try keeping a log if I had a way that was not a PITA.

I only kept track for one year and used the clicker style counter as well. I skipped most of July and August due to extreme heat in favor of night fishing for big catfish on the rivers. I ended up with 2,776 on the year. I had to actually land each fish, none of them that fell off while landing them or weren't controlled were counted.

Keeping track of dinks and sometimes even avg fish is a waste of time imo. It's annoying to spend even the 2 secs landing and unhooking them.

For big fish though I thought about adding a little bass decal to my canoe for each bass caught >20", kind of like nose art on warplanes. Can't find a decal I like though..

I used to keep track mentally during the day, broken down by lure.  On days when junk fishing was the best method it was a pain - as I'm casting I'm repeating in my head "4,3,12,9,1,1,3".  I found it distracting and I felt like I had OCD.

So, I stopped by Staples & bought a small, cheap dry erase board that has a magnet on the back.  I keep it next to me, stuck on something metal & just make a slash for every fish caught like a jail inmate keeping track of his days in the clink.  Only problem was a windy day, when it blew out of the boat.  With rain, I just put it in a zip-lock bag.

Once I get home, I transfer the numbers along with other pertinent info to an Excel spreadsheet.  It is indeed neat to look back after a few years to compare what worked and results.

I use the voice recorder on my cell phone.  I play it back when I get home, and put the info down on a excel spreadsheet.  Got the idea from someone here on the forum.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet that contains all my fishing data (catches, tackle, etc.). As far as keeping track of fish caught from my boat, I add bass silhouettes to the hull - each silhouette represents 100 bass caught.  Here's an older photo from last year:

Man, if I make use of such a system to keep track of how many I catch I would pretty much need something about as long as a super tanker, just to have it painted every 6 months, I would run out of boat quite fast.

Now back to the OP, if you have time to keep track then you aren't catching that many.

For sure - this system would take some work to keep up to date in high-yield, fertile fisheries!  It's an easy system to maintain in my home waters: low yield, infertile fisheries. As an example, it is a very RARE event when every two-man boat in a bass tournament manages to catch a total of 5 bass 10" or longer over a 6 or 7 hour tournament. Usually, the bass club only manages to have about 2/3 of the boats in a tournament catch five or more LMB.  A 3 pound LMB will usually get big bass. These kinds of fisheries make the record keeping much easier... ;)

I will sometimes use the notes app on my phone and take some details down and leave the size and pretend it's my "live-well"  and try to get the bets "bag" (5) at the end of the day.  Yet to be honest most times I stop counting after I catch five.

Im with you on that, the places around here are way over fished and aren't really taken care of. So catching 5 in a day isa good day on waters around here. I like keeping track just to see how many I can catch in a year. Im pretty new at fishing so every fish i catch is an adventure for me haha

Man, I mean, them bass marks are 10+ lbers, those are the only ones that really count.  :devil3:

I fish with a guy that weighs, measures, photos, and uses a tape recorder on every fish he catches and he fishes 300 days a year minimum. when I say photo I don't mean like a quick selfie. I mean he lays it down on the ground, carpet, wherever and takes a photo of it.

If the bite is on I'll have two or three fish in the boat during the time he is back there dicking around with an 11" fish.
