Are their some crankbaits that never need tuning? I have a crush 50x squarebill crankbait, that I've beat the hell out of, and it still runs true a year in. Are newer crankbaits more durable, and hold their factory tune better perhaps?

Good question !

Like you, I have many cranks that have seen a lot of wear and tear and they still run perfectly while others don´t, the interesting part is that I think it has more to do with the individual bait rather than with the brand, age, style or model, for whatever reason one is more durable than another. For example, I have this particular Heddon Sonic that has caught tons of fish and has never needed tunning while I have another one that needs some doctoring after a while ( like after banging it against something ).

Bandits are some of the most durable cranks I've ever fished. Never need tuned and can't remember ever breaking one, even when they probably should have.

I will second Bandits. I did crack one though on a railing while making a cast. It was a very hard hit, but I was able to catch 4 more fish on it before I retired it. Besides being tough baits they flat out catch fish.
