2-piece Rods?

I just wondered what peoples views are on 2-piece rods? I have always avoided them as I just can't help but fear losing a big one if I got into it and having the rod come apart. Maybe this is being too paranoid but wondered what other people thought? I'm going to Cabelas soon and have always wanted to be able to fish using swim baits but most rods in my price range (around $100) only go up to 1oz. (Fenwick HMG, HMX) and most 6" swim baits are 1.25oz. to 1.5oz. so the rod wouldn't work the bait as efficiently but I do see that Cabelas has a Fish Eagle 50 heavy spinning rod that says it handles lures from 1/2oz. to 1-1/2oz. but it's a 2-piece rod. To me if you're getting a heavy rod to use swim baits with wouldn't you want the security of it being a 1 piece and not have the potential to come apart on you in the middle of landing a big ol' lunker? Also, on a side note...would you use a size 35 or 40 spinning reel for the 6" swim baits?

They work fine in my experience. It would seem logical that a one piece would be more secure than a two piece when throwing huge baits, but I don't understand the concern about it coming apart when fighting a fish. There's no lateral force pulling the rod apart, just the downward force of the fish bending it. Whereas when you're throwing a large bait out you are loading it up and then shooting it straight out.

I think you'll be fine. After all, surf fishing rods (mine included) are usually two piece.

I figured some years ago that if I was going to be serious about bass fishing, I should buy 1 pc rods. I haven't regretted it once since. The last 2-pc I had was so troublesome, I glued it together. I would like a good quality travel rod to keep in the vehicle for fishing on a whim when I'm on vacation or just out on work business, but it's not a need.

2 piece rods are more for the convenience of travel but really all of those 2 piece rods being made today are top notch.  If you had a blindfold on you probably wouldn't be able to tell if a rod is 1 or 2 pieces.  Don't worry about the rod coming apart as long as you attach it properly.  I might have had a rod come apart on me once, and that was when I completely half-assed putting the two pieces together where it wasn't a tight connection.

It depends on the rod, I have several 2 piece rods spinning and trigger, an old Berkley Lightning spinning, how good is it ? unless you are one of those persons gifted with super powers I seriously doubt you could differentiate the 2 piece from the single piece of the same power and action rating, I also have a GraphiteLeader Bosco ( spinning ) and Veloce ( spinning and trigger ), how good are they ? well the Bosco is pretty much up par with an Avid while both Veloce are up par with my IMXs. Only once I´ve had the upper half come apart, but that was caused by my own stupidity.

i have a couple 2 piece rods i keep in the truck and take on the river.  i can't discern a difference from the 1 and 2 piece rods, but only 2 piece rods will fit behind my truck seat

Just received my first 2 piece casting Rod: Majorcraft 6'2" M/L CORKISH!  A discontinued model that I preferred over the new one out now  

Put an Orange Pixy with Tatsu (6or8) # and am super pleased with it for 1/16-1/8 oz Shakey heads and 3-4 inch wacky worms.   

   A beautiful Rod that I got on sale. 

Such quality for the price. And I can't tell it is 2 piece. Nice travel case too.

Todays two piece rods are made with the same quality as the manufacturer's other rods. I fish two G Loomis 2 piece spinning rods (IMX versions) one for drop shotting and one for light jerk baits like original floating Rapalas.  I needed to go to the 2 piece rods to fit the 7 footers in my aluminum bass boat's rod locker.  They are super sensitive and fish great. I hope this helps.

Fifteen years ago I bought a Cabelas Tourney baitcaster MH 2-piece for a trip and it is still going strong.. I can't believe how light that rod is.

Fwiw, my go to rod is a 2 piece avid x.

Most of my rods for other fish are two pieces. Only the rods I use for bass are one piece. Never had a problem with 2 piece rods.

I have two St Croix Premier rods one piece and the other two piece,Can;t tell the difference.

My rods are "budget models" or cheap. Two of them are two piece, the only issue I've ever had is after fighting a few decent bass the halves will twist out of alignment. Nothing major, just enough to be able to see it, and being a bit ocd it will drive me nuts!

if you insist on spinning rods get the longest uglystik rod possible and get a huge reel for 15-25 pound flourocarbon

A large diameter spinning reel spool will generally produce more drag pressure than most casting reels. They can accept larger drag washers. A fiberglass rod will not cast further than a quality graphite rod that loads the presentation employed correctly.

I've had a few two piecers from when I needed to fit them into a car I was driving before I got my truck. Never had a problem with them vs. a 1 piece.
