Torn Thumb Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 To Dave Mustaines credit, he did write most of the riffs on Kill Em All. Metallica is still the better band even though they haven't been thrash since the 80's. Quote
Chowderhead Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Having seen both in concert, and listened to their albums the last few decades, I would have to go with Megadeth. Despite all of the various lineup changes and crazy Dave moments, they have really produced some great tracks. If I could add in another "metal" band, albeit not thrash metal, Iron Maiden is still my favorite concert. IM would be my "desert island" choice. Quote

Metallica begs to differ Still doesn't touch their first four albums IMO but it's a step back in the right direction. Quote
Torn Thumb Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I love Metallica, don't get me wrong. If you go back and listen to death magnetic, one of the songs has the exact same riff as hardwired. Also the lyrics are getting kinda lame for me personally. Buy lyrics aren't usually the reason I like music so I'm torn. I've seen them live 4 times and they always crush but I'm not willing to pay $80+ for a single day show anymore. I much prefer small club shows with 10 bands for 20$. Quote

As for hardwired, there's nothing unique about the riff. It's an open E gallop riff (Two 16th notes followed by an 8th, repeated as desired), it's been used by countless bands in countless songs for decades. "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden uses it, "Raining Blood" by Slayer uses a reversed version of it (one 8th followed by two 16ths),It's not that they were lazy and copied it. Quote
