Glacial Lakes SD

I’ve convinced my wife to do a 3-day trip in South Dakota’s glacial lakes region. We’re staying in Webster and I’m looking for any advice you guys are willing to offer

I’m taking my boat but will be looking to stay on the smaller lakes as my boat isn’t that big and not looking to take my wife out into any big rollers. It sounds like lots of the smaller lakes have questionable access due to roads and ramps; any advice there or where I can go to get more info?

We will be looking primarily for walleye, panfish and pike, but would also chase after some smallies if we could find them.

I was up there a few weeks ago.  While the water levels are down a bit, I was able to launch my 18' Ranger without too much trouble.  Admittedly, Horseshoe Lake and Reetz Lake south of Webster are the only ones I fished in that area, though.  The dirt roads are more of an inconvenience (i.e. dusty boat) than any real access problems, IMO. You can go the SD fish and game site and look at Day County and Marshall County for maps of lakes and fishing forecasts.  I would check the weather forecasts and wind directions and then choose a lake with boat ramps  on the side that allow you to fish the safer, calmer parts of the lake without having the get caught out in the windswept areas unnecessarily.
