Chance_Taker4 Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 There is an above ground reservoir in my area it is clear to 20 feet. How do I go about fishing in such clear water from the shore? I'm not sure what baits or target areas to target. Quote
Smallieseeker Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Try to make the farthest cast you can and try to parallel the shore the best you can. I live right next to a upground in Ohio and have alot of luck with the smallmouth. I generally through willow leaf spinner baits, crankbaits, and 2-5 inch soft swimbaits. Top waters are another option especially at night but on the one I fish it isn't the best option. I try bottom contact baits alot like tubes, dropshot, and Texas rigs with decent success but if your reservoir is anythin like the one I fish than you will loose quite a few baits in the rocks. Which upground are you fishing? I might be able to help you out more if it's one I have fished before. 1 Quote

I heard there are nice fish in it but not having an electric motor only boat I cant get into the water. I catch tons of trout out of it but never bass. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 2, 2016 Super User Posted June 2, 2016 I fish a ton of very clear water north of you in northern MI. I have had quite a bit of success with a drop shot and a SK Rage Craw. I use spinning gear, 10 lb braid & an 8 lb test mono leader. From the bank you'll want to use a cylindrical style drop shot weight and Tex-Pose the bait on a 3/0 EWG Hook. Helps reduce hang ups. Best way to "work" the bait is - you don't. Fish it like it was live bait. The rage craw works it's magic all on it's own. Good Luck A-Jay 2 Quote

Chance_Taker4 Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 instead of digging into the ground they take dirt and build up walls on top of the ground to make a bowl, then fill in the "bowl" with rocks. It is difficult to see in this photo but you can make out the slope in the light colored grass around the water is sloped to show you the "bowl" that is made. 1 Quote

Defiance I have never fished before. Oxbow is my go to water. I went to college in Defiance and fell in love with the scenery at Oxbow. I have caught quite a few 2 and 3lbers but it is difficult to get them to bite. Now that the pressure has died down once the ODNR banned gas motors they seem to be a little easier to catch. 1 Quote

Was you fishing shoreline cover or out farther more? shoreline there are 3 fishing piers throughout the lake I normally fish the tip of the piers because they disturb the channel running through the lake and they also create a point with a steep drop off. If I can find the pictures on my wife's phone in 2011 we were fishing end of November and caught 22 bass in 35 minutes all of the same ledge at the pier. Quote

You can cast those things a mile and their action is subtle enough that it won't spook the fish. Just keep your retrieve steady since those things are expensive enough you wouldn't want to make a habit of losing them on the rocks. 1 Quote

I don't think any bait shop in my area besides Bass Pro carries any either. It would be subtle and a presentation the fish never seen before. Quote

To prevent water seeping through the tank walls they are usually concrete coated, the water treated to prevent Mosqiutos or stocked with Mosqiuto eating fish. Are you sure there is a bass population? I would look for an alternative place to bass fish or fish at night around the tower. Tom Quote

I have seen 3" and 4" Largemouth swimming but thats it. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2016 Super User Posted June 3, 2016 Fly line a big live Canadian night crawler on 6 lb mono with size 1 Mosqiuto hook in the tail end around the tower, if any adult size bass are in this tank that where they will be located.
