Heron Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Holy smokes......THE most productive bait I have ever used. Way more fish caught vs. far fewer baits lost. Really contemplating getting rid of my most of my jigs, beavers, and craws, in favor of this bait. Not all...But most. 1 Quote
dday07 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Here in SoCal been like the biggest bait for a while.....catches numbers and a few nice ones Quote
Silas Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Exactly what hook are y'all using? I fished them a few times and like them but it seems to take a special hook to have room to go through and yet still have enough gap to hook the fish. Quote

Size 5 EWG Trokar hook...but whatever size 5 you prefer Quote
DCales84 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 How are you guys rigging them... skirt forward or backwards? With or without weights. I have a pack that has yet to be used as I'm still figuring out the best rigging options. Quote
Heron Posted May 30, 2016 Author Posted May 30, 2016 I've actually been using 3/0 EWG, rigged skirt up, weightless. I've just been scooting it along the bottom. 1 Quote

How have the rest of you guys been fishing it? I have two packs I've been dying to take out and use in the ponds around here. Quote

brown12687 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Is the Fat Ika much different than the Damiki Hydra? I've been using the Damiki Hydra on and off for the last couple years and I haven't seen huge benefit to using it over a craw style bait or even a worm. Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted May 30, 2016 Super User Posted May 30, 2016 I posted a couple days ago that I really like rigging it backwards for skipping under docks... It really scoots forward on the fall and triggers strikes. However I can't seem to get any type of realistic retrieve this way, it curly cues back to the boat. Anyone rigging it backwards with a good retrieve method? Quote

I thought I had ordered everything I needed from the TW sale and then I see this thread. New to Fat Ikas, looks like something I need to add to the arsenal. This website is gonna break me lol. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 31, 2016 Super User Posted May 31, 2016 Here of pic of the 4/0 DeepThroat hook VMC Fast Grip 4/0 Wide Gap Also along with the Hydra mentioned, Keitech has a solid bodied tube 2 Quote

When you rig it skirt up it falls body down and when you pop it you get nice action from the skirt. They cast like a bullet. It's my second favorite soft plastic behind a senko. I love gycb. Quote

ErikmonBillsfon Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Has anyone tried them rage rigged? I will try backwards like is mentioned and cast them so they can glide under docks and matts. Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Are you guys using braid with fluoro or straight fluorocarbon to fish these? Quote

I actually use straight braid on this setup. Never had a reason to add a leader on. Maybe I'll give it a shot with some of my extra FC. These baits last for forever. In one outing I can run through a couple senko's, but I'll be using the same fat ika for multiple outings. Bought a couple bags last spring and still have only opened one of each color. fyi I use a 4/0 gamakatsu EWG and my main colors are Green Pumpkin and Black w/ red flake. Both have produced. Quote
THE_Vue's Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 My smallie smasher. I Have the Ika body mold and rig them like this. Remelt the used plastic Quote
