loudcherokee Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 So I'm finally starting to get through to my fishing buddy on bass fishing and using a bit nicer equipment. He currently uses a $30-$40 Shakespeare combo with a rod action that could only be described as "limp noodle". I mean, the tip on this thing wants to point at the ground with a weightless plastic rigged. SMH. I'm going to be giving him my Lews Tournament Speed Spin reel when I pick up the Team Lews spinning reel, but he insists on a 2 piece rod. I only use 1 piece rods with the exception of an ugly stick I use for panfishing and bottom fishing with live bait, so I know next to nothing about 2 piece rods. What's a good 2 piece spinning rod that will have a nice tip, good all around power, and sensitivity under $100? He's starting to throw more baits but wouldn't be interested in multiple rigs so something that can cover alot of bases would be helpful. I'm thinking a 7' MH Moderate fast maybe. I've tried talking him into a baitcaster and he even enjoyed tossing my Lews around for a bit, but was one of those bit by a cheap 1 bearing Shakespeare baitcaster in the past and had a horrible experience and refuses to switch. kcdinkerz Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 One rod that's usually always in my cars is an Abu vengeance 7 foot m power fast action 2 piece, though its not very sensitive compared to other rods it was only 30 bucks when I picked it up 3 years ago. Pulled in a lot of big fish with this rod. Quote
IDUTBass Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 I haven't tried that many different spinning rods but I really like my 2 piece fenwick hmg. Quote
Onvacation Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 My travel rod, toss in any car, use under any condition, is a two piece BPS M/F Carbonlite. I think it's 6'6". It is sensitive enough that my wife immediately noticed the difference when she used it compared to a $50 rod. I've thrown everything on it and while as you might guess, my other specialized rods are better at their specific jobs, this one has never made me feel like I was cheating myself when I caught a fish on it. I personally think the MH would be overkill in this situation. I've caught redfish in the double digits on this rod and lost a substantial catfish due to operator error but not the rod. Quote
