When I took that pic I was using pretty much the last TruTurn hook I had left ( which got lost like 30 min later when I hung up in rock pile ), I switched many years ago to a 5/0 Owner J hook. 1 Quote

Hurricane Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 What size bullet weight do you usually go with? Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 27, 2016 Super User Posted May 27, 2016 7 minutes ago, LastCastChris said: What size bullet weight do you usually go with? 1/4 to 3/8 oz most of the time, if it´s windy then I can go up to 1/2 or even 3/4 oz, if I want a slower fall 1/16 -1/8 oz. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 27, 2016 Super User Posted May 27, 2016 I use the red shad in stained water, black shad. Or motor oil in clear water, moccasin in tannic water and tequila in dusk or dawn.I use a 1 or 2/0 wide Angle hook and as little weight as poss. Caught 2 of my 10 biggest fish on the 7.5.I think one on black shad and one on red. 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I like the black shad, especially under low light conditions. Depending on the wind and water depth, I'll use anywhere from 1/8oz. to 4/8oz. With a 3/0 EWG. They are also a great choice for C-rigging and if I recall correctly, they are also available in a 10in. version 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted May 27, 2016 Super User Posted May 27, 2016 Not anymore but I used to fish their curly tail worms. No complaints about them. 1 Quote
lo n slo Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 fire and ice, red shad, and crawdad (brown w/gold belly) are my favorite Culprit worms. the late Bryan Kerchal won a BMC on High Rock Lake throwing the red shad. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 28, 2016 Super User Posted May 28, 2016 Man, that red shad was my favorite bait nearly everywhere I fished back then.I won a tournament fishing with them in the 80s 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 I got tons and tons of culprit worms. Try the Fat Max. I got about every color they make but I always seem to go back to a pumpkin seed fat max with the tail dipped in Spike it. I've had good luck rigging them on a VMC Drop Dead hook. 2 Quote
2tall79 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Grape shad has been real good to me in the waters around here. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 29, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 29, 2016 Haven't used them in forever but I know I still have some 7.5" black and fire and ice somewhere. 3/0 EWG and a 1/8-1/4 ounce bullet weight gets it done for me. 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 29, 2016 Super User Posted May 29, 2016 Usually red shad for me in both 7.5" and 10" lengths. Usually a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG with 3/16 to 3/8 oz weight. Quote

When I first started bass fishing I only had two rods and two baits: A 6" plastic worm and a Rebel Deep Wee R. If they weren't doing that, I was fishing for catfish or swimming. But they usually were biting one of these two if I could fish the fish. I picked up on the spinnerbait later and had the middle layer of water covered. I had switched from worm to T-rigged craw the last couple years and caught some better quality fish on it. But yesterday I ran out of Chigger Craws and put a ribbon tail worm on and caught 2 with it. 17 hours ago, 2tall79 said: Grape shad has been real good to me in the waters around here. Me too. So good I stopped wasting money on other colors. But the place I fish most now they seem to prefer black/blue. I guess that's due to water stain. I have tried to lighten up but never get bites. Quote
Jaw1 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Although I haven't fished a worm in a few years when I didn't it was red shad, green shad, tequila sunrise. Quote
jr231 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 When my grandpa past. He left behind all his tackle . There is a soft Plano bag with 4 cases inside it. All stuffed with culprit worms. Every color you could think of. He would take me and my brother fishing and almost always used one from the bank. He bought me two packs as a stocking stuffer one year. And told me these are my two favorite colors . Red shad, Nd tequila. Quote
