Cyacnba Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Hi, I just purchased my flight tickets to visit my grandparents in Riverside, CA since they came all the way from Argentina. My grandfather who introduced me to fishing wants to try bass fishing, but I know nothing about this area. What ponds/lakes would you guys recommend? I would prefer a small pond since my grandfather is 84 years old, so I do not want him to walk or stand all day... I would not mind renting a boat (this would be ideal). Also, if you could tell me what baits work well in Riverside, CA, I would really appreciate it. I owe my grandfather so much, so I want to provide him with the best experience possible. Of course, just hanging out with him is the best part, but I also want him to catch a bass. I want to get him a 15 Metanium DC as well, so he can try one of the most advanced reels (he loves technological stuff), but they just told me about their arrival a few days ago, so not much time left tbh. If anyone knows where I could get one to arrive within next week (Monday/Tuesday), that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 26, 2016 Super User Posted May 26, 2016 DVL Diamond Valley lake and lake Perris. DVL has boat rentals available, excellent bass lake. Not sure about boat rentals at Perris, smaller lake and a good bass. Tom Quote

blckshirt98 Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 If you're willing to fork out for a Metanium for a short trip you might want to consider hiring a guide for Lake Perris! Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 2, 2016 Super User Posted June 2, 2016 Check with Last Chance Tackle in Hemet for information regarding DVL and Perris fishing including guides and the reel you are looking for. Tom Quote
OCdockskipper Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 It sounds as if your grandparents will be staying with someone. If so, take a shot in the dark & ask that person if he has any friends or acquaintances who live in Canyon Lake. It is a private, gated community, but maybe they have a contact who would be willing to let you & your grandfather visit and fish. Who knows, they may even be willing to lend you a boat for the day. It isn't that large of a lake that you need a full sized bass boat and the place is loaded with docks, so even those unfamiliar with the lake can get action by focusing on this cover. Quote

I bought him a decent fishing combo and a watch with a large screen due to his poor vision instead. I will try looking for a guide though, we got skunked yesterday at Elsinore. 14 hours ago, WRB said: Check with Last Chance Tackle in Hemet for information regarding DVL and Perris fishing including guides and the reel you are looking for. Tom Thanks, I gave then a call, and they recommended Eric Sanders. Hope he has time tomorrow or Saturday morning. 14 hours ago, OCdockskipper said: It sounds as if your grandparents will be staying with someone. Unfortunately, we are staying at my uncle's place, and he doesn't know anyone in that area... thanks for the suggestion though! Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2016 Super User Posted June 3, 2016 Why Elsinore, doesn't have enough water? DVLhas a good bite going on now! Tom Quote

Tom Not sure, but the water color was pretty green. We were fishing from shore, next to some boat ramps/docks from 9-10:30AM. We had to leave because it was getting really hot, and my grandfather was already exhausted. Quote

Friday and Saturday the forecast is 108/109 extreme heat, go early or stay home. Tom Quote

Tom We will leave early, but do you know any good spots to fish from shore? I read that the marina area is good, but I think it opens at 7AM. Any tips on fishing techniques would be greatly appreciated as well. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 4, 2016 Super User Posted June 4, 2016 Search the site for "Slip shot rig", May 2016 ChrisD46 The slip shot rig uses a cyclinder weight, lead or brass, plastic Carolina Keeper, glass bead is optional, light wire hook (Owner 5133) size 1/0 for 6" curl tail worms. With spinning tackle with 6 to 8 lb line use a 1/8 weight, bait casting with 8 to 10 lb line use 1/4 to 3/8 oz weight. Colors change all the time. DVL or Perris try oxblood red flake or MMIII Roboworms. Cast and drag slowly back...simple. Tom Quote
Caliyak Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 I just sent you a pm with a website to search. Big so-cal angler following. Quote
dallasdb Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Research Fairmont Park in Riverside. A lot of bums at night but from what I can remember, it's been years, it has quite a bit of shaded areas. Quote
