Which swimbait should I choose?

So a couple weeks ago I bought a 6" slow sinking savage gear line thru trout.  So far I love he bait, I haven't thrown it that much and I have already got two really nice fish.  I decided to get another swimbaits (and take advantage of the memorial day sale) to widen my options, and the three baits I am thinking of buying are, the river2sea S-waver, the shine glide, or a sinking version of the line thru trout.  Which swimbait do you guys think is best?

I love the weedless hudds and the swaver. Cant go wrong. I also really like the big storm shad swimbait I forget what its called.

The Savage gear line through trouts are an awesome bait for the money!  If I were you next one I'd try would be a Huddleston weedless bluegill - But one disclaimer be prepared to wait. Mine took 5 months to come in.. And for that reason you might also check out the Savage Gear 3D Bluegill. It has a fixed treble both top and bottom - and the bottom can be removed to make it easier to go through heavy cover.

You also couldn't go wrong with getting another Savage Gear trout in a different rate of fall and/or color. I have several Huddleston trouts and honestly prefer the Savage Gears - they swim a little better (in my opinion) and for the price you don't feel as bad when you tear one up because they are about 1/3 the cost.

Here is the Huddleston weedless bluegill I just got in.  It has a large hook in head and it has an open pocket where the plastic is easily pushed down. I haven't used it much yet so I'm not sure about hookup yet but one thing I like about it is I feel I can drag it through just about any cover without getting it hung up.

Another one to consider would be the Huddleston 68 Special trout. It is their 6" size trout with a larger tail of their 8" which is supposed to have more swimming action.

Here are some more swimbaits I have although I can't speak on how they are to use much because I haven't gotten the chance to throw most of them yet. Just have a lure addiction like most here. The Huddleston 68 special is the one top right of the box.

I'm really liking the Savage Gear 3D bluegills. The bigger size puts off a terrific wake if you fish it just below the surface, but it's also 4oz so it's a lot of bait if you're just starting out. You have a straight retrieve bait, so next I would probably get either a glide or a wake bait. The bigger Shine Glide is a great bait, so is the S waver 168. The Duel Hardcore Twitching Ninja is a nice bait as well for a little more money. In the wake baits, the Spro Rat 40 or 50 are probably your best choice for a more affordable bait. The MS Slammer is my favorite, but considerably more money as well.

I've had a lot more time with the S waver because the Shine Glide is a new bait, but I like the size and glide of the Shine Glide better and I feel like there's less of a learning curve with it. I caught very few fish on my S wavers until I modified them. I've had the most success with the Threadfin Shine Glide and Bone S waver. I just got the chartreuse shad Shine Glide though and it really gets a lot of follows if I can just get them to convert into bites.

Hudd and S-Waver are found in pretty much 90% of swimbait fisher mans aresenal. I'd also recommend an ABT suicide glide

The only swimbait I've thrown is the spro rat so I may be biased, but that thing flat out catches fish. At the current moment, it's my top producing lure for numbers this year, and has also caught my number 2 and 3 largest fish of the year.

Is the smaller shine glide any good, or should I get the 7 1/4 inch version?  And how do you retrieve it?

in my short time throwing swimbaits i have discovered one thing. i always regret getting the smaller version i picked up 2 5" savage gear glide swimmers and i think i would be much better having the larger ones

The S-Waver is a proven bait and one of the cheaper ones to get into the swimbait game.  One of the local pros here throws the S-Wavers most of the time and does well with them.  One thing with the glide baits though is they'll fish a little differently than the line through trout you're using now.  Another bait I'll throw out there is the Gantarel Jr which was just released...I've heard a lot of good feedback about that one.

Get the big one. The smaller Shine Glides are probably the best gliding smaller bait I've found, but they're not nearly as good as the big ones.

Not a fan of the regular 6", but the 68 is great. The line thru Savage Gear is a different style of bait though.

Is the action different enough to justify getting a huddleston 68, or is the savage just as good?

What rod-reel are you using?

When you get over 3 oz you need  heavy or XH swimbait rod.

The hudd is designed to be fished much slower than the Savage Gear. I have both and both are good but used at different times and situations.

Swaver 120 or 168 is the best bang for your buck glide bait.

I'm not sure if you have dedicated swimbait gear or not, but as far as some smaller swimbaits go, the 6" slow sink allows you to cover the middle to upper water column, so I would look at a top water/wake to cover the surface, a faster sink to cover the bottom of the water column, and a glide bait. I'd say S-waver 168, spro rat 40, and a fast sinking 6" trout or maybe a Hudd 68 special in a fast sink rate would be great to get you started.

I use a 6'3" medium heavy rod, I plan on saving up for a second bait caster for swimbaits but don't own any other bait casting rods yet.  Which color of the spro rats do you like best?  All of the reviews recommended purple, but if throwing a rat isn't strange enough a purple rat seems even stranger.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Morning Dawn color of Spro Rat. I call it "Hippie Rat", because of the kind of tie-dye color scheme, and it's my favorite color of Spro Rat.

Thanks for all of the advice!  I was planning on buying a spro rat, but unfortunately I broke off on my line thru trout yesterday so I can't afford to get a rat in addition to that.  While ordering I saw the savage gear 5" trout for 7$ and it looked interesting, so I decided to give it a try.  Next time I order I will definitely pick up a spro rat in the morning dawn color and hopefully a glide bait to.

I know you are asking about the s waver. But the next savage gear lure im picking up is the savage gear six inch gill. But as a go to swimbait for the summer the bbz rat is hard to beat it catches number and size for me and at a good price as far as most rat lures go
