Studying Lakemaster on Computer

Hey guys, going to a new lake this weekend. It's on my Lakemaster chip. Can I insert the chip into the computer to study the contours or do I have to sit in my boat in the garage and look at the GPS? Personally I like sitting in the boat but my wife wants to spend time with me........

No you cannot view on computer. This could possibly erase some data on chip as well so don't try it

Get a power cord so you can run the unit in your house using Simulator. PC-10 or PC-11.

Sometimes I have 4 or more units on my desk checking stuff.

I do all the software updates in-house and have them handy to verify an answer I may post on sites like this.

Just need a power supply that has 2A+ capacity.

Wayne P. you are the man! That's what I'll do. Do you just hook up the pc10 to a 12v battery? Or what's your power choice? THANK YOU

I use A/C-DC converters so I do not have to use a battery, but any 12V power supply will work if it has the amp capacity.

The last one I bought was from Radio Shack and has terminal posts to connect the power cord.

You can also use Navionics * and their Webapp.  It lets you look at lakes without having to purchase anything.  I use it at work or at home when I'm too lazy to pull my Humminbirds out of the safe and drag a battery indoors.

May not show you exactly what the Lakemaster chart shows but they are pretty close.

Using your unit with the Lakemaster card will give you more experience with your HB unit and give you a chance to play with all the features that the Navionics Webapp won't give you.

The adjustments that Navionics Mobile has is close to what Lakemaster has.

I have the mobile app on my iphone as well.   Seems pretty accurate as well as very convenient.   I bounce it off my LM card that I have in my 999.

Looking at this power cable above. If I spliced this power supply to a humminbird pc10 power cable with an inline fuse, would this work in my living room?

Since you didn't mention what unit you're running it is hard to say.  But if it needs more than 1 amp then no.  This is a 1 amp power supply.  It might work but then again it is not exactly a quality power supply.  Not sure how your unit would react to it.  I'm sure Wayne can give you a better opinion.

1A will run up to 1198, but not a 1199 or large Helix. That is why I stated 2A +

I'm just running an 858. What do you mean when you says it's not a quality power sounce? Something better? Also, if I'm running on a 1 amp power do I need a fuse? Really, thanks a ton for your guys help.

 

Btw, I stopped and looked how bass pro had all their units running last night. They had a speaker spring clip board that all the power cords ran to. Interesting concept.

This type of power supply converts AC from your wall to DC that your 858 can use.  It's been a few years since I played with electronics but some "power supplies" did not provide a "clean" DC output.  There were ripples and dips in the power output.  Not all DC electronic units like that and it would cause some issues.  Things have probably gotten a lot better since then so the one you posted may be fine.

A 1A power supply will handle any of the four versions of the 858 when using Simulator.

Your unit should have a 3A fuse on the positive conductor regardless of the power supply.

So I finally got everything I needed to put this together and... Fail! I ran a 3 amp inline fuse through the positive line. I bought a 1 amp ac to dc wall plug and a humminbird pc10 power cord. Butt jointed everything together, hit the power and nothing. Anything obvious I did wrong or did I mess up a butt splice somewhere? Very disappointing! Was hoping to play before this weekends tourney

Was the power supply you got rated at 12V  1A?

I have three of these that are 13.8v at 1000 mA that I have run two 1198's and a 798 for a seminar demo. Have a 1198 connected to one now.

Got them from Radio Shack and have Enercell as a brand name.

It has an auto receptacle and I put a auto plug on the power cord to plug into it. The auto plug has a built-in fuse holder.

One more thing did you connect the power cord conductors to the correct power supply positive/negative AND connect the power cord plug to the unit with the correct polarity????

If you have polarity reversed the unit will not turn on.

Both wires are black on the power supply. What I've read is the wire with the white dashes is the positive but not always. Maybe Ill try to turn them around? Thanks Wayne

Wayne, you nailed it!!! I switched those wires and BOOM it fired up. This is why I use this site, thank you!
