Sufix Performance Braid

Anyone use this new stuff yet? Is it different than their 832?

Far as I know it isn't new unless they made some changes to it.  The 832 is a newer braid than the Performance.  I had 40# Performance on a reel for about 5 years...not a lot of use....mainly on trips to Florida.  Only reason I had to change it then was because I threw a 3/4 oz. spoon tied direct for about 5 hours one day, and it twisted the line bad.  I prefer it to PP because it is quieter.  Performance it is a good value, but I've read 832 is better.  I've got some 832, but it is on a spinning rod and so sees very little use.

I guess I was just looking at the new colors and not the type of braid.

Suffix performance braid has been out a lot longer than 832. It's a good braid but doesn't have the gore fiber strand that 832 has.   8 strand line versus 6.

I got some of the Sufix Performance when Sports Authority was clearing out their fishing departments.  I have some 832 as well and between the two the Performance isn't as soft/pliable as the 832.  Plenty strong though, just not as supple if you're looking for a softer line.

I only tried Performance Braid once, a spool of 50# that went on two frogging setups.

I thought it was maybe the worst braid I've ever used. It faded almost immediately; it was very stiff and slow to break in; the casting distance was just plain bad; and it felt really thick and 'mushy', for lack of a better descriptive term.

For that reason, I was slow to try the 832 when it came out a few years later, and that's a shame. 832 is an excellent line and probably my second favorite braid after Daiwa Samurai. 

Unless you're getting it for next to nothing, I would shy away from the 50# Performance braid. Maybe the lighter weights are better.

The Gore fiber in the 832 is designed to give it a higher specific gravity, to make it sink a little more.  The original Suffix Performance braid is my favorite on BC outfits since it is a tighter weave than most, a little stiffer, and doesn't seem to absorb as much water.  With a soft braid + water absorption, the line gets too heavy and flies off the spool making loops at the spool.  Pain in the you know what.  Not with Suffix Performance braid.

I used it in the past. It's a good line but I prefer plain old power pro in green or yellow.

One of my favorite braids at a decent price. Pretty tightly woven and fairly quiet.

I have 40#.  It does lose color pretty fast.  Doesn't flake off on your fingers while spooling like Fireline does.  Nor is it anywhere near as hard as Fireline.  I don't remember the Performance being stiff, but it has been awhile since I first used it.  Don't know about 50#, but the 40# casts great for me.  My brother-in-law can tell you I was really bombing that 3/4 oz. spoon on a 7' MHF Jupiter rated 1/4-1 oz.

I picked up a used reel that came with what had to be some fairly old 65# braid.  Brand unknown.  That stuff floated like a kite on the cast.  Needless to say it didn't last very long before being replaced.

I use what I have left of my orange performance
braid as line to sew things up with when I DIY
kayak leashes or shorts with gaping holes, LOL.

It is strong stuff!

It's definitely not new, I use it in 80# for my muskie/pike set up. So I can't say much as far as smaller tests go. But I have had no issues and it's a lot quieter and has more abrasion resistance than the PP I used before.

I use performance braid a lot. I prefer it to 832 for flippin and pitching. It seems to hold up a lot better around wood. I've never though it was a stiff line. It maintains a round shape and is tightly woven. It is a little thicker than the 832.

Only used 4 strand 20# and didnt like it, the noisiest braid Ive used.

Performance braid has been around a lot longer than "832". Performance braid, like most braids, floats and is usually a better braid for dead sticking top waters or fishing them very slowly. "832" will eventually sink making it not the best frogging line if you are dead sticking the frog because as it slowly sinks it will pull your topwater bait towards you and possibly out of the area/zone you want to fish. "832" is one of the very few sinking braids. I have fished "832" when Carolina rigging, jigging and very deep cranks. It's also a good line for a fast moving topwater like a buzzbait where it doesn't really have time to sink. "832" is definitely a superior braid.

Power Pro is a good line as well but I like the "Slick 8" version of it better and have recently been using the MaxCuatro Power Pro which has an even smaller diameter than either regular PPro or "Slick 8". So far, so good.  I have no use for Spiderwire.

It's my favorite braid in 50 lb, (what I throw on a baitcaster.)  I like it better than the 832, it's soft and smooth but firm and it doesn't flake off all over everything like some braids.
