Has anyone heard of bass backing off their beds while bedding because of weather inconsistency? They were bedding last week but not this week. I went to a summer spot yesterday and got a 5 pounder. She looked full of eggs. It has been really warm here but winds as much as 30 miles per hour. Has anyone heard of bass backing off their beds while bedding? Thanks

yes, its a common thing during the unpredictable spring months when spawning takes place.

They all do not move up @ once. It is a process, not like flipping a light switch it may take a month or @ least a few weeks.

How quickly will the weather affect the bass (prespawn) locations? Say for example, a day of showers and thunderstorms coming through (not a drastic front with drops in temp), just rain.

i didnt think so. Ive been out this spring when winds were 20 and gusting to 30+ and was able to find the fish. I went out last night after showers throughout the day. It ended up being perfectly calm, glass water and i had trouble finding fish. I got a few hits on the frog, but thats it. First time fishing this pond, but things have been pretty active. I also tried deep areas off the shallows.

sometimes bass will make their beds in deeper water than you think...

also, maybe that bed hatched. someone caught and removed that fish. or the bed was destroyed by some sort of predator. could be anything...

The variables concerning bedding are endless, there are many things that can start the spawn, stop it, re-start it etc...

Also, bass will move up on the beds in stages, They dont all move at the same time, some will bed while others are still staging and considering the biodiversity of the water this can be a long process.

Plus,.. One lake they may be bedding and another they havent even started to stage yet.

Just because you saw a bass, or even a pair on a bed today, and 4 days later they are gone from that same bed, doesnt mean the spawn is over. bass spawn all over the small lakes up here in mass,.... some may spawn close to shore and others out away from the shore in 12 feet of water.

Its usually a month and a half long process,.. depending on the weather it may be shorter, or longer.

Nothing is written in stone when it comes to mother natures decisions
