fishingredneck42 Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 my friend has offered to sell me a 7.5 hp. Sears Gamefisher outboard motor for my 12 ft. bass boat. Its been in storage for a few years, but it was running when he put it away. I figured with a service, it would be ok. He wants 200 dollars. Is this a good deal? Quote
fishinfool Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 how old is it? when did he "put it away?" if it's in decent condition, i would say thats not a bad deal. i just bought a new yamaha 15 horse for my 16 ft fishin boat Quote
Nick_Barr Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 It is a good deal. Just watch out for unexpected break downs with gamefisher motors. They are one of those motors that are not very reliable. my friend has one and it has been in the shop numerous times. Quote
fishingredneck42 Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 thanks guys any other opinions? Quote
Muddpuppy Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 How does that go...$100.00 for every 1hp. up to 10 and $1000 for every 10 over that, something like that for a new one, Anyway, that sounds like a good deal to me, if it is in good shape. I had an old sears 5hp. and it was a good motor, it just had a rough home life. One thing you may consider is, how good of care does you friend take care of his things. If nothing else runs the motor probably won't either. Make sure you check the lower unit oil before you try to crank it if it has set for a real long time. Quote
