I bought one of those because I thought the name was funny and while I love the action, I have never even gotten a hit on it.  The hook was also really dull and even after some time with a file I was not confident it was very sharp.  I love the idea of weedless spoons though, I should give it another try.

My dad has done well on those fished through and over the tops of lily-pads. I do agree the hook is not great though.

Yea, that specific use was what I was most interested in.  I will have to give it another try.

Another thing I didn't like was the bait keeper, it's just a swinging nail basically, and doesn't hold too well. You can add an owner cps spring if you cut it off though.

Ok...now THAT is ridiculous!  lol.  I would have bought everyone and asked if they had more.

Only one of the rods was $15.94. I price matched the other to get both for 16 each. If i went back with the receipt, do you think i could get the other rods that weren't exactly the same? I really like the falcon rods and I'm giving one to a friend.

That seems a bit dishonest to me.  Be happy with the great deal you got man!

I use the size 0 silver blade with the white split double grub trailer it comes with. I also add a trailer hook too. I twitch it as it falls into the weed pockets. A shot of scent helps too. This timber doodle works great. I do use all three sizes, "00", "0", "1".

I also use the mister twister 4" split double tail grub that the timber doodle comes with as a trailer on my spinnerbaits too. Like spinnerbaits I have no clue what the bass think what the timber doodle is but they strike it.

I just want to say thanks to those contributing to this thread. I picked up a couple of Kistler rods yesterday that I otherwise wouldn't have known were on sale.

Hope I can give you some helpful advice here regarding getting good Walmart deals.  First, it is very likely that the prices you got were 100% legit and not "mistakes."  They sometimes have massive markdowns to clear out products.  These deeply discounted prices are embedded in their system, tied to the product's bar code (e.g. the very specific product) on a store by store basis.   Where they are more likely to make mistakes is in labeling the product's price with the tags.   So - if you go in there and see the same rod in a different size marked at $99.99 - try scanning it - it might simply ring up at $16, and is being overlooked by every other shopper in the store.  You can take the marked down item as an indication that other similar items might be marked down.

Keep in mind there can be quirks to their accounting/inventory that make little sense: they might be blowing out the 6'-6" MH/F but there is no change in price for the 7'0" MH/F for a rod that is otherwise identical.

And... as you suggest, you can always ask a manager who has the power to make a markdown if they are willing/able to make one since you found a similar one on sale.  They might know that the store wants to get rid of those rods at just about any price - all it took was someone to prompt them to think about it!  Trust me, a manager won't sell it to you at a price the store can't live with, but sometimes they are happy to sell at huge discount - all you have to do is ask, and there is no harm in asking.

I talked to Trey yesterday on the phone.  He's letting me exchange the Mag 2s I bought last month for some Heliums and a KLX feel and reel!  Pretty stoked.  $125 for a helium3 is nuts.  Couldn't say no.

I saw you were planning to call, glad it worked out for you. I've never fished a Kistler before, so I'm pretty excited to check them out.

You won't be disappointed.  They are incredible rods.  Super light, crisp, strong, and balanced.  Doesn't get much better than that!  Enjoy!

I went to their site and the lowest price on the 130's is $12.88 and Terminator was no longer showing. Some of the 90's are $9.88 but again extremely limited selection.

These were in store prices I got

For many years it's been rods on clearance or discounted but I use good quality copolymere line with good quality reels. I was happy with what ever brand of rod I had just to be fishing. Then talking here years ago I decided to move up to the LEWS brand. I still have my old south bend and Shakespeare's stuff too tucked away. But the sales on better rods does look tempting.

check Walmart often, even all winter long. Start watching there clearance section from January on.

It's more like $30-$40 instead of twenty, but still a good deal.

what's the consensus on the purist?  I've been trying to hunt down reviews, seems like they weren't highly regarded 10 or so years ago, but five years ago they replaced the President XT, but now I see the P-XT on Pflueger's site, but not the Purist.  is this better than the standard President reel?

I got the ones I ordered today and they seem great to me. Silky smooth retrieve in hand. I ordered 2x of the 30 and 35 so I could decide which size I wanted with them in front of me and I'm debating keeping 2x 30s and a 35. If I could snag a 25 for my 8 year old I would in a heartbeat.

I think he was saying that its $20 0ff its original price. not $20 for the reel.
