I’ve never used these rod but this has me intrigued. Would these rods compare at all to a Dobyns Fury? I’ve been impressed with the Fury I bought this year.

I only have the heavy casting, and never handled a Fury. But the Fury grip looks nicer than the Aird. The Aird flex is probably pretty similar, H/F is more like  MH+/ModF than what I’m used to. I’ve read Dobyns are somewhat similar, a step lower and slower in power/action. I’m getting them as spare rods for guests in my boat that don’t have gear for heavy cover. They are great for the money though and I wouldn’t hesitate to fish them if I was limited in options.

I think @MN Fisher has both Fury and Airds so maybe he can chime in.

Fury vs Aird-X

I'll use a Fury 704C vs an Aird-X 7' MH/F - the line/lure stats are identical so we're comparing apples to apples.

  • Fury is a little softer in the tip - the Aird-X is a bit 'crisper'...I'd call the Fury a MF-F where the Aird-X is closer to a F-XF
  • Aird-X is lighter than the Fury - 4.19oz vs 5.51oz...measured on my digital scale.
  • I prefer the Fury cork/EVA handles to the all EVA of the Aird-X - just something about cork.
  • Fury is more sensitive - I can feel the bottom better with it.

I still plan on using both - the Fury for bottom contact with a Patriarch 7.1 and the Aird-X for moving baits (spin/chatter/buzz) with a Patriarch 7.9.

Gee, is Rico really that good? Every year I see people go crazy on them.  I don't fish poppers much and I just got a PopMax to try out next year.

They're good quality baits for sure, both the poppers and their walking baits. I don’t feel like they’re overpriced at their normal price if that helps. I think it’s just the super deep discount that drives the frenzy - baits that are normally $25 are suddenly 3 for $25 so people go nuts.

- Fleet Farm currently has the CA-80XS (8.3:1) on sale for $59.99 - that's $40 off retail

Have you received yours yet? My SIL ordered one on the 27th and hasn't heard a peep since.

Ordered on 11/27, shipped on 11/29, received on 12/1

I'd go back and check with them - also, priority is given to Fleet Rewards members...which I am.

Next year I have to remember that they always have a Dobyn's sale after BF...maybe get a Champ XP-Split Grip to replace the Aird-X (either of them)...this year, I'm out of funds for tackle.

Lowest prices I’ve ever seen. Champ XPs, Kadens, and Furys. I’m broke.

Anybody have an idea how long those Dobyns prices are good for? The end of the year correct?

Never mind, I read the smaller print. I’m an idiot.

Is TW doing the 25 days of Christmas sale? If yes when does it start? Thanks

Probably 25 days before Christmas.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Just got an email from Cabela's, they can't deliver. They said sorry and suggested I order Purist instead. Sorry but I'm very disappointed with them. This is a reel I'd been eyeballing, they were already sold out in the size I wanted but I got excited when they sent out the Black Friday mailer. Then they put them all back on the website for the sale and they never had them, and apparently can't get them. I have a friend who ordered one first thing in the morning and he got the same email. LAME.

I noticed the Pflueger Supreme XT on sale at Cabelas and ordered one, they said it shipped.  Great reel, great price.

That is tempting, but I saw one for sale a little cheaper with a GT52HW transducer.  Does a couple of generations ago's transducer matter much for a trolling motor mount?  And, can that unit network to share points with a 93sv?

Disregard...it's an Echomap +.  Not worth the loss in capability for the slight discount.

I just wanted to point out that Dicks Sporting Goods seems to have suspended it's survey for $10 off $50 deal.  I am not seeing it printed on receipts these days, and the old links don't seem to work.  That thing produced some sweet deals for baits when they had major clearance prices.  You could get a lot for around $40.

If someone sees that it is working again let me know!

I always loved that deal. They stopped sending me promo emails last year too.
